46k miles my '22 R1T and inspection failed due to torn rubber boot on front control arms; Inspection garage can't get parts (from Rivian) or even work on these.

Is this a warranty item? My service center is 2 hours away and it always ends up being weeks to fix.

I can find OEM control arms on Ebay for 200$ but not sure how easy it is to replace them myself (in case it's not warrantied). And why is service station not able to replace them even if I give them the parts? I guess I would need an alignment as well.

There is NO short answer!

First of all they set my appointment for 30 days from now as a place holder(2 hours from me)

Second they want pictures so they know what to order and what happened. And they will not even tell me if it is covered under warranty.

Third they do not "allow' other local shops to do the work; i.e. they will not ship parts.

Kind of stupid IMHO as you can easily find he parts on Ebay. I have done the same with my out of warranty Tesla and it's a one hour job.

4-year/50,000-mile warranty (or 5-year/60,000-mile for Quad-Motor configurations) and an 8-year battery and drivetrain warranty, which varies by battery and motor configuration, up to 8 years or 175,000 miles. It also includes an 8-year corrosion warranty, an 8-year/100,000-mile occupant restraint system warranty, and a 1-year/12,000-mile adjustment warranty.

Let's hope so! So far no clear answers from Rivian.

Control arms bushing could be considered wearable parts?

Kind of stupid?

You knowingly bought a car that does not have service support closer than 2 hours. Who’s fault is that?

Warranty policy is accessible to anyone. https://rivian.com/support/article/new-vehicle-limited-warranty-guide

How can they possibly tell you if your particular case is covered, without physical access to vehicle to obtain definitive understanding of the problem and causes?

If you have a health problem, you expect the doctor who is two hours away to tell you how much it will cost before they have a chance to examine you and run tests? Huh?

I live in Los Angeles and it was an hour to the nearest service center. Lucky for you to be living next to one but most of us have an inconvenience. No need for you to be high and mighty about it.

I understand their hesitation to giving you an answer as they don't know without seeing it. My guess is they want to see if it's worn out and defective or worn out due to other damage/issues (defective or not) so they can fix the root cause.

Under this guess, it's probably why they don't want to ship out parts to a 3rd party because if that doesn't work out, it would be on Rivian.

Just make an appointment and bring it in, stuff wears out.

I did make appointment (in 4 weeks) and sent them pictures as they requested. I think I can just grease it for now to keep water out. It is a pain mostly because of the failed inspection.

Irrespective of whether it is warranty or not it is strange that no-one is able to get such a part. All the ones I found on Ebay ended up being "slightly used".

I too live in the Los Angeles Area and with nearby service centers within 20-30 miles it’s still 1.5-2.0 hrs to get there with LA gridlock traffic.

Update:

30 days wait for service
10 days in service; got out today and the control arms were replaced under warranty.

Overall great communication with Rivian Service!

Glad Rivian took care of you under warranty since their refusal to sell you a control arm outright is absurd. Even Tesla isn't that bad.
