I've been checking the Rivian website and CarMax for used R1Ts (I went to a Rivian service center last month to test-drive an R1S and an R1T — hated the way the R1S rode, but fell in love with the R1T).

CarMax had a 2025 R1T Max Pack with Performance Package, Sight and Sound, Power Tonneau, Ocean Cost interior, and 22-inch all-seasons for $68,000 with 25,000 miles on it in Illinois. Was about to pull the trigger and pay the $549 fee to have it shipped to NC when someone snatched it and had it shipped to Colorado.

Even though the R1T is a vastly different vehicle from the R2 I have a reservation for, I think it'll be a much more versatile vehicle for my needs.
I think the T is a uniquely excellent vehicle. I’m excited about the R2 for all the people it makes sense for, but I think if you want a truck, a used Gen2 T Dual Max is an excellent choice.

lol, it’s not invalidating. It’s a discussion based around real world examples. There’s no reason for you to react like that. I’m just sharing my perspective based on the facts.
We can both feel differently on something that’s subjective like who does well at having different colors without getting upset. I do still feel like Rivian offers more variety than most. But you’re right that they’re not offering more variety than anyone else.
Sure you invalidated it. For whatever reason, you were the one who asked me to provide examples, so I did. The response was (with input from others as well) that it wasn't the same thing and not comparable. Guess what? They are directly competitive. Rivian's focus is a fully-functional SUVs and trucks with offroad capabilities for the adventurous, less so focused on being solely on-road. The R2 is Rivian's foray into a higher volume vehicle with the same attributes as the R1. Further, they're not going to simply stick with those coming from Tesla or other EVs, they're also trying to entice new owners from other manufacturers, especially from the brands I included.

You took the time to even go so far as to list out the colors and now you're trying to backtrack a bit, as you say above, that yes, indeed Rivian had and still does have other colors to work from including the Yellow and the Red.

I’m not backtracking at all. I included the colors as datapoints so it could be discussed. And I acknowledged that the wrangler definitely had more color options in that comment.

I think maybe you’re mistaking me trying to extend some civility in response to whatever it is you’re doing / taking out on me as backtracking.

Maybe a better response from you could be “yes, but even if the color diversity is similar to the equinox and Ford, I really am disappointed there’s not a red. That’s the color I really care about.”

Fine. Let's look at competitors that actually have comparable models: Ford Bronco, Chevy Equinox, Jeep Wrangler - they all have more vibrant color palettes. Shy of the purple, Rivian's offerings are muted.
That’s fine. You can have a groundbreaking EV in a muted palette or some shitboxes in neon colors. ;)
Or… spend a little and wrap it in whatever you want.

And muted for an obvious reason. Branding. Irrational and illogical to expect one brand to act in accordance of another's branding. Just look at Rivian's paint names. The glaring clue is that they are all inspired by things found in nature.

Looks like it's R1 for you!
I already have an R1 in Rivian Blue. I was hoping to get the R2 in the same or similar color. I'm tired of boring colored cars. I wish they'd offered 2 shades of grey max and continued with blue and red etc.

If the Catalina cove is that color shown in the photos that looks like the R3X color, I'll happily choose that.

Hey! One thing I haven't seen people speculate on: how many points are R2 referrals worth?? Anyone want to take a guess?

Current breakdown for R1 referral:
  • 500 points – Tri or Quad
  • 250 points – Dual with Max battery
  • 250 points – Dual with Large battery
  • 100 points – Dual Standard
And, reminder to current owners, you can self-refer.

I was hoping for a "Baja Sunset" color. Something like the signature color of the Subaru Uncharted:

Or Gary's orange vest. Note other colors on him. It could still happen. Unless, they are saving it for RAD and X trims. R3X has orange accents.

Hah. Not much different from the previous 21" and existing 22" designs. Variations on the basic 5-point star scheme.
Surprised by having 21s and low profile ish tires on an SUV touted for off road ability and large ground clearance.

And obvious reason is not every R1 owner go off-road or bought their cars for that reason. Off-road or not, both can be true. Jeep is an off-road brand and not every one of its models are off-road oriented. Trackhawk? Hello? And trust me, you do not want to take a stock FWD Patriot off-road.

And R1 owners had a choice of 20 to 22” inch wheels with AT and AS tires. In addition to air suspension to enhance or not the ride height. The R2, from these details, comes with AS tires and thin side walls.

And R2 will also have off-pavement oriented wheel/tire package (we've seen that from the preproduction prototypes). Not sure what your point is or why you think you've seen everything already, based only on what just one web site has leaked.
