I'm hoping that 4,400LB towing spec is incorrect? That number seems oddly specific and that's the reason It's suspect IMO.
I think it might be limited simply by the size of the chassis, an Audi SQ5 also has same towing capacity and it's certainly powerful enough to tow more.

agreed, seems kinda low for what should be easily able to pull more weight.
I was estimating 5,000lbs towing capacity based on the size/weight of the R2, it's tire sizes and the size (at least from what we could glean from photos) of the brake calipers.

And no towing included on the Premium trim, you have to pay for "tow package"? Maybe they're doing what Honda does.. they do include the actual tow receiver on all builds, but no wire harness/trailer light/brake controller included.. that's what you get in the "tow package"?

Ya, I thought 5,000lbs would be the towing capacity as well. That would certainly be more than plenty for a vehicle this size.

It's better than the Model Y at 3,500lbs. And really, a number being specific is less suspect to me - means there's been enough testing.

There's some pretty interesting trailers out there that are under 4,400lbs gross, so it's not a totally bad number.

I also think this is the case. My 1998 Jeep XJ had a towing capacity of 5,000lbs with significantly less power, but it had a similar frame to the R1 with a reinforced ladder under the unibody to provide additional rigidity.

And once FSD doesn’t make these key errors and make everyone around it crazy, it should be used more. Right now, using a system that makes everyone around you annoyed and is dangerous is silly.
If it's not used, how can it get better/improved?

4400 lbs is 2000 kg. With the R2 being designed to meet Euro spec that number makes more sense. I don't know if there is a particular EU regulatory distinction for trailer weight above 2000 kg but that might be why.

The GM ARC ones aren't self contained. If you replace them, you need a defeater system for it, like this one for example: https://shocksims.com/products/obd-ss-arc-adaptive-ride-control-bypass

If someone doesn't come up with a defeat for the Rivian ones, we might see some off-roaders preferring the non-premium trim, since it ships with traditional dampers.
Thanks, I wasn’t aware of this. $335-$600 for these “defeaters”. Similar in principle to the airbag defeaters that van conversion builders use if they remove airbags in a passenger van converted to an RV.

How do you expect FSD or Autonomy+ to get better if it's not being actively used in real-world conditions? AI can't exist in a vacuum to get BETTER at self-driving.

Rivian is using LIDAR to help augment its other sensors to help us get to a better place with full self-driving. But that means that it needs to be used in the real world, not in a lab.

I get that you don't like FSD or autonomous systems because you think they're annoying, but we don't just go from 0 to 100 overnight. It takes time, it takes work, it takes practice.
If it's not used, how can it get better/improved?

It’s actually very easy. Use it in the real world. But…don’t market it as something it’s not, leading to people largely using it in an unsafe way.

The issue is the way it’s being used. That will address the safety issue. I can deal with the annoyance part if it doesn’t almost cause ridiculous accidents.

It ain’t rocket science folks.

I can’t wait to have an autonomous car.

Yea, this pricing is a home run for Rivian. The R2 Premium is the sweet spot IMO. The Launch edition isn’t too pricey either. NGL, I’m tempted to trade my R1S for a Launch Edition. Maybe my wife will be interested in trading here Mini Countryman JCW for one.
