Agree with everything you said above. They are their own worst enemy. Nurturers, achievers, lol and WTH? And just SHOW THE CAR for goodness sake. Kyle rightly criticized them for that. Morons.

But if it actually does look like a smaller version of this and goes >350 miles, with 900V charging, 3.5 second 0-60, and an L4 capable ADAS ... I'm listening!

1,000% agreed. People would be fighting to give them their money if that is what comes of it. I'd put a reservation in the first second they allow it.

Instead, with nothing to see, people will likely just snag all of the aforementioned competition coming out over the next two years. Lucid has the potential to completely redefine this space, but instead all we have is promises. And nurturers. Whatever tf that is.

We're holding on to our 2023 Chevy Bolt, with adaptive cruise, until we decide to convert our R2 reservation.

It won't do everything the Rivians do, but it's capable enough and makes a great backup. And it's bright red -- glad for a vivid color, hope Rivian has some in the future.

Best wishes, Alex! Hope to see you and your wife back in the Rivian family soon....

Out of curiosity, what are your thoughts on purchasing a 3rd party extended warranty? Sounds like you really liked the Rivian and that may have been a viable alternative. Mine is over 3 years old and I’m planning on purchasing an extended warranty in a few years since I can’t find an EV replacement for the T at a reasonable price point.

Ya, was going to ask the same question.

Thought about it, but from an initial search, they seemed to run a few thousand dollars. I figured I could just use that money to throw at the next car. But even outside of cost, general reliability, specially on the Gen 1 product, was still a concern as I did not want to get stranded anywhere and have it in the shop for weeks to get an appointment.

Then it basically came down to that if I wanted to stay with Rivian, I was better off just getting an R2. Simpler design, a more matured company and no air suspension hopefully means better longevity and less things breaking down the line.

For those that can swing it, the Porsche Cayenne looks pretty sweet.
I'd want the turbo, which is way out of my budget. The no one pedal drive thing is almost a deal breaker for me as well. Will test drive the Macan though to see what that is all about.

Wait, the Lucid Cosmos (or Earth?) is supposed to be a SMALLER version of this? Smaller than this 2 door, 2 seater car?

My 2022 R1T is coming up on the 52,500 service and then the 60,000 mile warranty will soon be up. I love the truck. Had 4 Honda Ridglines before this and the RiT is the EV equivalent. On steroids.

Our first EV was a Tesla S in 2014 followed by a 3 in 2018 and now my wife's 2024 Y is coming up on 2 years and 10,000miles. I lived through Tesla's software development and Elon's missed promises. I think we paid $2,000 extra for FSD on the 2018 and of course never got it. When we traded the 3 for the Y however, the FSD migrated to the new Y. I have taken the Y on a few road trips and also around town. The FSD is not perfect, but it is amazing and I am getting spoiled. Especially on road trips.

I am thinking about selling the R1T before the warranty is up and have the same conundrum. What to replace it with? The only options if you want an EV truck are R1T and Cybertruck. I love the styling, interior, gear tunnel, size of the R1T. Only thing I do not like about the hardware is the tail gate, but that's not a deal breaker. The software, however, sucks. I don't understand what they are selling to VW, Uber etc.. Perhaps they are way ahead of all the other EV's except Tesla. But current Tesla tech is lightyears ahead of Rivian.

After driving the FSD Y for a few thousand miles, it has become a must have for me. Until you have been on a road trip or had your Tesla take you out to dinner and even park for you, you cannot appreciate the value of FSD. It does have its faults. For some reason it cannot find the Mesa Airport. But for 99% of usage it is great.

The other long promised by everyone, but not delivered tech is V2H. I think our future is solar with V2H as the grid is unreliable and getting worse. Battery storage is very expensive while we all have a hundred kWh +/- sitting in the garage. Why doesn't Rivian deliver on this?

I still haven't made up my mind but here are my thoughts:

Rivian: great hardware, styling, gear tunnel, size.
Cybertruck: ugly, too big, but has FSD and supposedly V2H.

I don't want to wait the 3-5 years it will really take for Rivian to perfect FSD.

I am going to test drive a Cybertruck and also determine whether the advertised V2H is real or just another Elon promise.

Because the Cybertruck is so ugly and probably will not fit in my garage, I guess there is a 3rd option. Risk the potential repair costs and drive the Rivian for 3 years or more and see what Rivian develops versus all the press releases.

The software you see and interact with is the tip of the iceberg, so to speak. The vast majority of the software Rivian has written is deep in the bowels of the car, running the zone controllers. THAT is what VW is interested in, and what Rivian arguably does as well as, or better than, any other manufacturer.

Smaller was wrong word. Let's say a more "practical" version? Shorter front for sure, bigger cabin. They said it looks very similar from the back.

It took a lot of convincing, but I got my wife to get a new Model Y Performance and it was honestly part of the reason why we sold the Rivian. The Y is now our default car. After a few months of just having the Rivian sit in our garage with minimal usage, I figured I'd consider selling it since the warranty was almost up anyway. FSD and Tesla software really changes how you interact with your vehicle. Sadly, Rivian is the only one even close in software.

I joked to test the waters with my wife and she said very clearly that she would support me in anything except for a cybertruck, so that is a non-starter lol let me know your thoughts though once you test drive it! I am always curious about other EVs and stop to talk to owners while charging or whatever and quite literally everyone I talked to about their cybertruck absolutely loves it. Very much a love it or hate it thing.

As for me, I'm really hoping Rivian gets up to speed on their point to point driving for the R2. No one else (except maybe GM) is even close to FSD but if anyone can catch up, its Rivian. We actually just took our Model Y on its first roadtrip last week. It did 95% of the driving. Have never arrived at a destination feeling more refreshed. Charged a lot quicker than the Rivian did too, which was kind of the final nail on the coffin to be honest.
