I had very weird issues with my R1T - I was getting random alerts that the gear tunnels were open and the tailgate was open. It told me the headlights were off and not operable (even though they were on). When I’d exit the vehicle the rear light bar, left tail light, and front right headlight would stay on indefinitely. Proximity locking wasn’t working. It told me the suspension wasn’t working, but it was. The car was otherwise working normally.
They had the truck for 3 weeks and couldn’t find an issue with it. Chalked it up to a software “glitch”.
I pick it up and they said they gave it a “courtesy wash”, and I’m driving home and hit 60mph and the steering wheel starts shaking uncontrollably. Like borderline unsafe to drive it was shaking so bad. I stopped at my local Mavis (who I have had great luck with) for them to check out the tires. They were all out of balance. Idk anything about tires, but basically they told me that when balancing tires you’re talking weight of GRAMS, like it might be 4 grams of weight to balance across the tires. The tire shop told me there was HALF A POUND of a “sandy/mud type substrate” caked on the inside of the wheels throwing off the balance. They cleared it up and truck drives perfect now. Not sure where it could have come from because the weather was pretty nice before I went out to Rivian and I had no issues at all. There’s no “sandy” like substrate where I love (1.5 hours from rivian). They put 80 miles on it, which I get because they were trying to get the errors to pop back up.
also not the first balancing issue I had with this SC. When I got these tires new last summer they installed them and they were so off balance I could barely drive home. Went to Mavis, they fixed it and told me the balancing was not even close to right. Very weird.
Oh well, few hundred miles later and my truck is perfect again and I still love it! Just a very odd situation all around.
