Good write-up, and expected response in a CT forum. Quad would be nice but personally I think the tri-motor is the best of both world: performance and range. It's not that much slower than the new quad but will likely get better range if it can just go into single-motor mode (FWD).
I actually don't mind the look in all honesty. It's very futuristic, looks like some kind of Mad Max custom build. It makes some big tradeoffs as a truck, notably with visibility and access to the bed. My wife hates it, said she would never drive it. That is another pro :)
Pros definitely outweigh the cons, R1T isn't perfect but it's definitely the best option for me. Probably the biggest con is the price, it's the most expensive EV truck out there (except for maybe the Hummer which is completely stupid).
Of course, at the announcement the price and specs were awesome. The supercharger network was a huge benefit as well, which Rivian didn't have access to. The truck is bigger, with a larger bed which is useful plus the tri motor has better performance. There are benefits to the truck but many...
I was holding my day 1 reservation until we knew specs (not great) and Canadian pricing (also not great but cheaper than a Rivian) but made the choice for an R1T today. Just saving up some cash before I can pull the trigger. Unlike some here, I still think the Cybertruck has some advantages...
It’s not hate, it’s just clear you are not paying attention to what is happening in the economy. As DB said, there was a time when *some* vehicles could be sold for a profit but that ended a while back and was a short-lived blip in an otherwise many decade history of new vehicles losing value...
What exactly were you hoping for? The vehicle to retain its full value? Who would buy a used vehicle for the same price as a new one? You seem to be completely dethatched from reality.
It's more expensive for the Gen2, I would be saving money getting the Gen1 due to the incentive and tax difference. The Gen2 does have a heat pump and in-house motors so *maybe* it's more efficient? Thanks for your insight though, helpful.
Gen 1 quad the only one with the 5 year warranty.

No luxury tax on the Rivian but you do end up paying more for higher MSRP vehicles due to the escalating tax..
300 miles isn't great, I think the quad...
Range is important, but maybe it's partly due to this being my first EV. At the same time, I do at times drive long distances, drive in winter (Canada) or go into the bush where there are no chargers.
Thanks, I have heard a few people mention the difference in sound between the two motor generations. The extra range is definitely nice, more so when I have my wife and twins in the truck on a trip.
I would be saving CAD $35K between a Gen1 Quad vs a Gen2 Max with performance. Not quite the same options (Gen1 on 20", black interior, Gen2 on 22" with ocean coast).
it's partly due to the stupid taxes we have in BC. I pay 10% provincial tax on the Gen1 but 15% on the Gen2 as it is in the...
Thanks. Range is quite important to me overall. I just completed a 1650km (~1030 miles) road trip in my F-150 and even with the V8 I can do >1000km (~620 miles) on a tank. When on my own I barely stop but with only 270 miles of range that would be an additional 80 minutes of time on the trip...
Thanks. Payload isn't a huge deal for me, I don't see loading it up to the max very often.
The Gen 2 range difference, on paper, is 145km (90 miles), between Large and Max. I did see Kyle's test before, where they only got 22 miles of extra range, maybe the Gen 2 has a bigger delta?
