  1. Gen1 Quad - New Mode Requested: Dual Motor

This is what can happen if the clutch fails to engage properly.
  2. Grok on Tesla - it's seriously amazing. Can't wait for Rivian to introduce their AI assistant

I can ask Grok to navigate to Walgreens, Target, then Starbucks in that specific order. It then starts the navigation automatically. Or the big thing for me is, while following a route, I can ask it to find me a Starbucks along the way within 30 minutes away that has a drive through. I ask ask...
  3. Poll- Dual vs Quad Motor Failure/Replacement.

2024 Gen 1 Quad. Rear right drive unit catastrophic* failure at 3K miles. Disconnect clutch failed. Fortunately since this was the rear, system forced itself into conserve using only front drive units. Happened while on a camping trip 1,500 miles from home.
  4. Grok on Tesla - it's seriously amazing. Can't wait for Rivian to introduce their AI assistant

You forgot to mention the latest feature, Grok’s tight integration with Tesla Navigation. And it works very well.
  5. 22" replacements: General Grabber HTS 60, efficiency hit

I’ve been happy with my Nokian One HT’s. Got them in July. I can’t say I have any solid data on if they’re better / worse for efficiency. I took them on a 2,000 mile road trip and did not notice any difference. I’ve been extremely happy with how they perform in the snow. They are slightly...
  6. BUMMER - Rivian OEM wheel from my 2023 Generation 1 R1T do not fit on 2026 Generation 2 R1S?

Why couldn’t your Rivian guide explain to you exactly why the wheels and tires wouldn’t fit so you’re not playing guessing games and having to ask strangers on this message board? A rhetorical question.
  7. Unhappy with quality of stereo sound

We have a 2025 Gen 1 R1S Quad. The sound did improve with some software updates about a year ago. I’m constantly reminded about how sub-par this audio system is after I’ve been driving my Model Y for a while. It’s like night and day. Lately I’ve been streaming content from my iPhone via...
  8. Rivian to lay off 600+ workers / 4% workforce (Oct 23, 2025 report)

this is the best strategy for long road trips as long as the charging stops are right off the highway. Sometimes it seems like a short distance on the maps, but it might be the time of day when there’s a lot of traffic around or difficult to find (like trying to find the one near Milwaukee...
  9. I LOVE my R1S!!!!!!!

The quality of vehicle you get as a loaner just depends on the quality of the Enterprise that Rivian sends you to; what they have available. When I arrive at the Enterprise I scan the lot and select what I think what would be the best comparable vehicle to the R1S. Unfortunately often times...
  10. How could Rivian do this to me? (Lost rear drivetrain power)

I had the same thing happen at 3K miles on our R1S Quad Gen 1. Rear right drive unit disconnect failure. keep it in conserve mode if you can
  11. Would you still buy your Rivian today?

We won’t buy another R1S Quad, but we will buy another R1S with a similar lease payment. I think many gen 1 Quad drivers who took delivery in early 2025 will downgrade to a Dual Max or Possibly Tri-motor. Not everyone wants a $1,800 monthly lease payment.
  12. The Dreaded Axle Clunk is Back for Gen 1 AND Early Gen 2! But my R1S Now is Better Than New from Factory

It was Deja vu reading out an R1S clutch disconnect failure in Montana. Last year I was in the middle of Montana on a cross country roadtrip when the clutch disconnect failed on the rear right motor. Slightly different mechanism (this was a quad). Did you have the blue fluid leaking out at any time?
  13. What is your "minor wish?"

Not having to use the scroll wheels on the steering wheel to adjust. Would prefer to press and hold in buttons
  14. Kneel Mode

yes, all the time. It’s normal to hear that if you’re not moving the vehicle when the suspension adjusts. It’s the brakes chattering because you’re forcing your wheels to move ever so slight then lowering or raising the vehicle.
  15. Headlights Blinding When Trying to Plug In Charger

I’m right handed so holding the charge plug with it, then cup my left hand over the charge port to block the parking light and let me see the actual charge port.
  16. The 2 things that will keep me from upgrading from OG Gen 1

And the church of Rivian says Amen! We are Q1 2024 buyers of the Gen 1 Quad Large. Anyone remember the crazy things Rivian was doing with the math back then to achieve their quarterly target? At the time I was completely oblivious to the kind of deal we were getting. Then earlier this year I...
  17. Connect+ Renewal Already... Are You Renewing?

We use a Google nest doorbell as our doggie cam. So in this case, having the WiFi hotspot is necessary.
  18. R1S Roof Racks Options - Compilation List

I’ve been extremely happy with my Frontrunner Slimline II. I was initially worried that the wind fairing might crack the glass since it does contact the front edge of it. If had this rack on 100% of the time for 18 months and zero issues. the way it connects to the mounting points is as solid...
  19. Well that was short lived - Cybertruck RWD discontinued

Yeah, I’m pretty disappointed that my GEN one is not going to progress any further with its autonomous driving. It was very “legacy OEM” of Rivian to build it this way.
  20. 22" inch tires recommendations?

I had to replace all tires on both the R1S and Model Y at the same time, so I went with a more economical and less typical choice, Nokian One HT. I was warned they would be a bit noisier. They are slightly more noisy than the OEM tires. However, at half the price, they are not twice as noisy as...
