It’s kind of silly to think you can have 3 temp zones actually work in the cabin of a car. The reality is the whole car evens out to one temperature.
It’s still anecdotal at this point but it sounds like the people that have had cold weather experience with the Rivians are doing better than the Tesla owners. Maybe it’s the bigger battery but A couple of owners on Facebook were only seeing 10 to 15% loss even in 10° weather at over 70 mph...
I drive from Somerville to Warren VT every weekend in the winter. I think the 200 miles won’t be much of a. Issue unless it’s below 15 degrees. With the AT tires it might be close. I’m hoping they make some snow tires for the 21s soon.
So far it sounds like Rivians are handling the cold a bit better than Tesla vehicles, maybe it’s the bigger battery or their thermal management but so far no one is seeing more than 20% hit on the highway at 70-75mph in 20 degree weather.
Rivian just built what many are calling the best truck ever made. And it’s ALSO the first to market EV truck, beating Tesla
and every ICE maker to market. That alone is a huge vote of confidence, and all done as a startup, with their first product. They have a very bright future IMO. The EV...
Even if you did keep it plugged in, would it keep the battery warm after it was fully charged to target? Since we don't have preconditioning i'm guessing it may not?
Good to know you left with a cold battery, because range would have been better. I'm guessing you would just need to time it...
So you only lost 11% doing 82 in the last leg? Wow, all of the range info people are reporting is really encouraging. Seems better than Tesla at speed and in the cold.
