  1. 2025.10 Update Now Installing

I installed the update as soon as I got it, but haven't driven the truck until this morning. I was talking to my kids as I backed out of the driveway as I always do (the truck has to cross a full-height curb where it's parked) and I was kind of shocked speechless. I wasn't looking to test it...
  2. Solar Panel on Crossbars?

I always get my hopes up, and then reality smashes them back down. If you use solar to charge a battery bank, and then use the battery bank to charge the car, I suspect the transmission loss between solar to bank, and from bank to car, would really eat into the total energy that makes it into...
  3. WiFi connectivity to home network while sleeping?

I put a wifi access point in the garage, because the car wasn't connecting to wifi. Turns out it didn't help, I think the car just disconnects while it sleeps. It makes sense, I was just used to seeing our Tesla on the network, which seems to maintain its wifi connection 24/7, even when not...
  4. The New Rivian NACS Port--Where Should It Be Located?

All things being equal, I vote for passenger front. - It addresses the towing crowd. - It addresses the Tesla SC crowd. - It addresses the curbside charging crowd. - It doesn't make for any worse experience to EA/EVGo/Buc-ees, Mavericks/Ionna/SCv4 or anyone else with reasonable-length cables -...
  5. Killer range performance, for one brief flash of brilliance.

I find if I'm stopped in rush hour traffic, my last 15-minutes are usually off-the-charts efficient :)
  6. What do blueish/ turquoise color calipers mean?

I'm struggling to understand the problem here. The Gen2QM has always been "coming 2025." We're still at the beginning of 2025. I don't know why you think as a reservation holder you would be entitled to advance info on pricing and options. It's a misalignment in expectations and you have every...
  7. What do blueish/ turquoise color calipers mean?

While it's probably not all that far off, it was confirmed that the Costco price was a placeholder (that's been there for years, it seems). They also had LA Silver listed as a $3500 option and 20" off-road package as standard trim, on some dual/tri configs. So not what I'd call reliable even...
  8. Just saw Rivian R1S burning on 101 Brokaw

A lot of times when I see an AWD vehicle being towed, the wheels on the ground are on dollies. Wonder if that wasn't the case here.
  9. Tesla nefarious behavior?

Ack, that's my bad, not sure how it happened. Fixed.
  10. Tesla nefarious behavior?

I don't have a dog in this race, honestly. But this isn't how the burden of proof works.
  11. Unlock While Proximity Unlocking Set to Lock Only

Yep, exact same situation, iPhone15. I've been spending the last couple of weeks PPF'ing the truck, and if I'm hanging around between 20-60 minutes it's almost certain to happen at least 2-3x within that time period.
  12. Initial Comparison of Running Boards and Rock Sliders

Running boards -- best QOL mod on the R1T, bar none. My small kids can get into the truck more easily, and I can just step up and in without scooting up the seat bolster. And they feel rock solid. I so wish Rivian made this a factory option.
  13. Can we start waving???

I showed this to my kid, who is R2-obsessed.Your mural blew him away. Thanks for sharing! His favorite Rivian trick - sitting in the car and saying "Alexa, enable R2D2 talk" and then spending the next 5 minutes asking R2 questions.
  14. Tesla nefarious behavior?

Honestly, if Autopilot would happily drive at a wall at 40mph until 0.3 seconds before impact, and THAT is when it would take some kind of Tokyo-Drift 10-G evasive maneuver that the video producers painstakingly deactivated to manufacture an impact....I might just choose hitting the wall as the...
  15. Tesla nefarious behavior?

The FTC has numerous rules on promotions and disclosures for social media and influencers. Youtube, which is subject to this as a platform, does as well. As do other countries, including the EU. And these cover more than just paid promos, but also product placement and in-kind contributions...
  16. Tesla nefarious behavior?

My Tesla has FSD and Autopilot, but AFAIK I'm at the mercy of Tesla for whatever version is running on the car. So IMHO, unless he spent the last 12 months declining software updates in preparation for this test, it's a fair take to run whatever software Tesla chose for the vehicle.
  17. Center Console/Camp Speaker

I believe my camp speaker is also locked while driving, which would make it not very useful for a drawer.
  18. Center Console/Camp Speaker

I don't think you want that, unless you want it eternally inaccessible. I got the BestEVMod cubby, andI think it's much more sturdy than a typical 3d print. It also comes with a bottom liner and 3 removable dividers. Plus, it has the pcb/resistor to make it recognizable as a lockable drawer. I...
  19. LIDAR vs Camera self-driving tests

A painted wall to fool self-driving cars is objectively less absurd than a glitter bomb attack on porch pirates, or...a squirrel olympics obstacle course? I think that's kind of a judgment call, personally. I actually really liked the Space Mountain portion of the video a lot more, I wish he...
