  1. Rivian preparing in-house V2H charger

Great solution! Yeah could probably get by fine with 8kWh lifepo, big 7-10k ish inverter - then have Rivian keep the lifepo topped off via 120v. I just think most big truck/SUV like the Rivian in the future will all have 240v outlets... so seems silly to me to throw many thousands at a house...
  2. Rivian preparing in-house V2H charger

Yeah I understand that need. Now there are plenty of studies that show NMC batteries like the Rivian uses where cycling has a degradation impact. Temperature is probably #1 impact then state of charge (I always store vehicles at 50% charge). Those are the three main factors. If your not planning...
  3. Rivian preparing in-house V2H charger

Yeah I was off on the 40kWh, sorry. But could grab EG4 12k inverter for $2500 and the 4 of these for $4k which is 24kWh; https://www.litime.com/products/48v-100ah-lifepo4-deep-cycle-battery# Or if you want to spend some more have an easily mobile solution (could throw in Rivian if camping/etc...
  4. V2H ?

I used the Rivian to power fridge and a number of devices in an outage worked fine. I have a generator if it was longer. Was hundreds for the generator - not 20k. I don't understand why people want to spend $6500 on a bidirectional EV charger plus that amount again for install/panel changes...
  5. Rivian preparing in-house V2H charger

I just don't see the point of this V2H? EVSE are a couple hundred bucks. Can get a huge inverter setup with 40kwh battery backup for much less than that V2H $6500. Then you have that backup plus 120v Rivian backup if ever needed. Also not putting battery cycles on an $100k+ vehicle which will...
  6. V2H ?

It would need pretty expensive new charger that could do that. Then rewiring house panel to accept this as well. Future vehicles will be able to just output 240v AC from ports, so not sure this will be compatible with future vehicles. I just don't see why many people would go to the expense to...
  7. Seeking Dual EV Charger Recommendations for Mercedes EQB & Rivian R1S

Yeah, a quality receptacle is a must. Seen dozens of melted ones because they were the cheap home Depot ones for an oven not an EV charging non-stop for 8-12 hours. Oven/dryers/etc all cycle on and off which is far less stress on the house electrical system. Those quality receptacles get...
  8. Seeking Dual EV Charger Recommendations for Mercedes EQB & Rivian R1S

Yeah if your charging overnight anything 240 volts will be fine. I actually temporarily setup a single reception household outlet as a 240 volt 20 amp circuit when I bought my first Tesla before the wall connector was installed and was surprised it always charged the car plenty. However today...
  9. Seeking Dual EV Charger Recommendations for Mercedes EQB & Rivian R1S

Yes, the car will pull 48 amps on a 60amp circuit vs pulling 40 on a 50 amp circuit. If you use a portable EVSE they normally are limited to pulling 32 amps (as some 14-50 outlet breakers are 40 amp circuits).
  10. Rivian Wall Charger J1772 cable replacement guide

Ok just looked up NACS and J1772..... they each have 5 wires, biggest two are hot1 and hot2. Smaller ground wire. Then two tiny signal wires. So switching a J1772 cable to NACS would require 5 connections in the EVSE.
  11. Rivian Wall Charger J1772 cable replacement guide

There is at least one small low voltage wire for communication between the vehicle and EVSE, maybe there are others. Actually I don't know that there is a ground wire? I know the EVSE obviously has a ground going to it from the home and uses it to trickle tests GFCI - I'm not sure the ground...
  12. Seeking Dual EV Charger Recommendations for Mercedes EQB & Rivian R1S

I'd suggest to check if hardwire the charger instead of an outlet is better. You can do a 60amp circuit hardwire (instead of max 50amp on receptible), its cheaper (receptacle requires expensive GFCI breaker), plus there are fewer points of failure. I know in my garage a major part is figuring...
  13. 20" Inch YOKOHAMA GEOLANDAR CV 4S | 275/60R20 - 116H - 660AA - 3PMSF

Thanks for the thread. I really like my 34's around town but might want a set of 33 for ski trips or other very long road trips with better efficiency and these might be the one I'm most interested. Just in case anyone missed it - you can now change the tire size right in your Rivian. For 20's...
  14. New Heavy Duty Aluminum Rival Skid Plates Installed! - EV Sportline

Yes Please!!! I see a grand total of ZERO options for a winch on the front of a Rivian. I would greatly overpay to get that on my R1S.
  15. 12V Questions

I'd think you might be able to get that setup working, I don't have much argofet experience but it appears to me that would involve changes to the Rivian stock 12v battery wiring. I'd prefer to just have a 100ah Lifepo with a 200a BMS as the secondary battery power the Amp. Then the only...
  16. DIY: How To Add Interior 12v/USB-C (and interior high-current 12v loads)

Great post! I've been researching how to potentially swap in a spare 12v if that is needed and I believe this point you make is a good practice and makes sense; 3. Install positive wire. a. Optional safety step [UPDATED after discussion with service tech]- To remove 12V power without tripping a...
  17. Emergency Jump starter powerful enough for dead Rivian 12v

Yeah if it can supply 120 amps for 20 second continuously that should likely be enough. I think the issue is many of these packs only supply current for a shorter time frame. Many of them wont supply anything until they see a bit of voltage from a batter to protect people hooking it up wrong.
  18. Emergency Jump starter powerful enough for dead Rivian 12v

Looks like it's 18lbs vs a 7lb lifepo..... If we confirmed it could supply 30amps continuously for 30ish seconds I might prefer an off the shelf ready to go solution like this. I just don't know how to verify it can supply current long enough that the Rivian needs to fully boot up. I guess if...
  19. Vehicle to Load dongle from charge port!

Not sure what the demands such as "I will not accept having to leave my window open" etc mean.... If this is critical need for you seems you should own a different vehicle with the features you most want. Sure I'd love if my R1 had more of these features, but it never has and likely will never...
  20. Emergency Jump starter powerful enough for dead Rivian 12v

The mbrf fuses bolt right onto the positive terminal so takes only a very tiny bit of space. It's a safety habit whenever having custom wires to battery terminals - but in this example might be good to also protect the spare BMS/cells.
