My gripe with the Defenders is that they aren't 3 peak rated for snow use. Being in MN, this is huge as I don't want to source, pay for, and store a whole different set of wheels/tires for winter use for the R1T. I will likely go with the Nokians for my next tire unless someone finally comes...

I had it too and was similarly pissed off in my email to them. I was so irritated that I just ripped it out and installed a Rachio instead because the remote access is something I really valued about the system.

With the price of a 2G R1 tri motor being into the six figures to start, the 1G quad motor presents an amazing value for people while they can still be had, especially if you have a preorder voucher. The 2G quad is likely to be $110k+ and that's out of reach of most people.
