  1. Interior door chrome scratches easily

There’s not much to this PSA. Here’s my driver’s door. I suppose it’s a ring or a watch doing the scratching, but usually my watch is covered by a shirt or jacket. ā€œChrome by the armā€ is not a design choice I would have personally made, but I’m not a car designer. At least use hard metal.
  2. Picking up new R1S next week, anything to be on the lookout for? Also: anything I should try to buy in the service center?

Check that all of the USB-C ports can power your phone. In two out of three Rivians I've had, at least some of the USB-C ports did not work. In fact, I just discovered just last week that my R1T's second row console USB-C ports did not work. I'll bet if I exhaustively checked them I'd find more...
  3. Insider Transactions Reported - Last Two Years

The sales are all 10b5-1 transactions, of course, where the exec. makes up a set of rules about under what conditions to transact, and submits them in advance for automatic execution. The rules can say, "buy at this price, sell at this price, etc." Periodically the exec. modifies the plan...

  5. Anyone running Hakka R5 SUVs?

Running them both a little longer, a few more observations: As one would expect, my 21" R5s have better efficiency than the 20" LT3s (which have a larger effective diameter due to the aspect ratio) The R5 tread pattern features a large number of "micro channels" which tend to suck up very tiny...
  6. Which ADAS is Really Driving? It’s Mobileye!

The NVIDIA system has two SoCs, so presumably already includes redundancy. Failing over to Mobileye is going to be problematic as it’s not spec’d to work in every scenario where the Orin can.
  7. Which ADAS is Really Driving? It’s Mobileye!

If you’re wondering why Rivian audio sucks so much, why there are no sunglasses holders under the seats, 12V outlets in under the dash or in the frunk, or why service center wait times are so long, or they sell pollution credits to other auto manufacturers: it’s because Rivian wasted your money...
  8. Which ADAS is Really Driving? It’s Mobileye!

Thanks for confirming, @mpshizzle. Rivian charges me $99 a year for hotspot connectivity, yet steals my Wi-Fi to upload hundreds of gigabytes on my dime. Tesla did this too. Volvo, BYD and XPeng also use dual Nvidia Orin. I am confident that Volvo will do a reasonable job. Volvo and Rivian...
  9. R2 drive unit (Maximus) only has 24 welds per stator assembly = cost savings

ChatGPT says (paraphrasing): "we have Daddy's (Uncle Sam's) money now." Whether it is hallucinating all of the below, I have no idea: 1. Manufacturing Complexity & Cost • Difficult to automate: • Continuous windings require precise wire handling and complex coil-forming techniques...
  10. R1S Extreme cold weather performance

This is as close as you can get, but note, at least on the G1 Rivians, "pulling from shore power" isn't quite what one would expect. It doesn't pull from shore power directly to precondition. Rather, it preconditions using power from your battery, and only later, after some time or threshold is...
  11. R2 drive unit (Maximus) only has 24 welds per stator assembly = cost savings

What is the reason this wasn't done on the Enduros? Life is tradeoffs, so the reason must exist.
  12. Battery report at one year / 20K: looking good!

As you can see, there is almost no battery degradation. Maybe 0.5%, but that could easily be explained by temperature fluctuations and noise. This is a great result, and much better than Tesla. I wonder if one could trade faster DC fast charing at above 80% SoC for a greater amount of...
  13. 2025.06 Update Release Notes

That means the system will half work. And that half will be Mobileye.
  14. 2025.06 Update Release Notes

I’m not sure why they prioritized this. It’s hard not to notice the vehicle in front of you moving. What is much more useful is Tesla’s ā€œding on light changeā€, which goes off when youā€˜re the first car at the light. I guess that was too hard.
  15. 2025.06 Update Release Notes

It will likely disappoint. Rivian doesn’t have the resources or talent to do this right. If they haven’t outsourced most of it already, they will.
  16. 2025.06 Update Release Notes

This is super useful because the external charge port button on my Rivians never work for me in cold weather. So even after unlocking, I have to get into the car to open the port.
  17. 4th crack in windshield. OMG I’m so done

Well, this thread is now full of people who have had a similar experience (including me), so I guess we can have a contest over who is the most "unlucky".
  18. 4th crack in windshield. OMG I’m so done

I've had three Rivians over the past few years, and two of them have suffered windshield cracks from very minor rock impacts kicked off by one SUV and one minivan. I'm not sure if this is normal, or if the glass is just very cheap. There are other Rivian components which I can verify are...
  19. Adjustment Warranty: Buyer Beware

Do panels misalign over time? No. This is a policy intended to avoid paying to fix Rivian's manufacturing mistakes simply by taking advantage of the fact that some people may not initially notice them. All the while avoiding a spike in people rejecting delivery outright. It's fraud to give a...
  20. Ceramic coating worth the cost?

Ceramic is nice. However, trees and bushes can still scratch through the paint. It’s not really a protectant. One of my Rivians has it and there are foliage scratch marks all the way through to the primer. The other Rivian has ceramic on top of PPF and there it helps with washing.
