The old one looked good on paper, too. Rivian's designs look good until they hit real world use. There will be a bunch of bugs with it that they will work out over time. Hopefully fewer than last time.
Autonomous driving without LIDAR is a pipe dream. ADAS if you’re not Waymo is downright dangerous. I know Rivian drivers like their gadgets, but this one you’ll have to give up on.
Fundamentally, the joint venture distracts Rivian from its core R&D mission (in serving VW's interests), arguably removes some competitive advantages, and enables a direct competitor in the Scout to come to market more quickly. It's a bad move, but they may have had no choice, as they really...
As someone who had two Xs and a 3, you made a great decision and will continue to be pleased. For the most part, a Rivian is light years better than a Tesla, and roughly as reliable (which isn't saying that much, unfortunately). Music quality is worse, and there's no gigantic HEPA filter. Those...
My understanding is that in the past, the factory XPEL had more gaps than the certified installer XPEL. Is that still true?
My installer XPEL is stellar, by the way. Would totally do again.
I've had multiple collisions and dings and Gear Guard hasn't caught a single one. Great idea, very bad implementation. Further, the cameras in the G1 are insufficient to take action even if the events were caught.
The downside of this integration is:
Tight coupling of components: you can't just swap out a module for a better module made by someone else (at least in the short term); one must wait for standardization. Manufacturers can be held hostage to particular parts.
Linked failure modes: modules are...
They say that dogs resemble their owners. The same could perhaps apply to CEOs of auto companies and their cars. One day, if RJ gets contract lenses, the front of the Rivians might resemble the Scout. That would be a big improvement, in my opinion. Ditch the spectacles!
Cars are designed to...
If demand were up, Rivian would not be offering incentives--but they are. Wait until they stop offering them before trying to goose your stock positions.
I hope Rivian just buys this and integrates it: https://www.mobileye.com/solutions/chauffeur/.
They don't have the skills to do this themselves; it would suck, and they're better off spending the R&D money on 12V outlets, sunglass holders, and better sound.

“To qualify for this limited-time offer, you must request a trade-in estimate, submit an order in R1 Shop and take delivery of your eligible R1S or R1T by March 31, 2025.”
Sounds like the article which noted a dip in January sales was, in fact, spot on, despite the “my uncle’s cousin’s...
I was going to buy two range extended Scouts, but the all-electric range is too low for road trips into the mountains, so I’m switching to the all electric versions. If I used the range extended versions I would be burning gas every weekend—that’s just too much pollution. For most people it’s...
I wonder how much of the demand in Q4 was post-election, as people realized that the EV tax lease credit will likely be going away in the new year. There was also likely carry forward demand from the sales (not lease) federal credit expiring for Rivian at the end of 2024.
Rivian is still huffing and puffing trying to get too big to fail, but at this point, the decision by Rivian to issue more debt instead of more stock looks unwise (just like I said at the time). In a fever-dream of optimism, Rivian has issued $5.5 billion in bonds and $1.3 billion of it is due...
