I have thought about this too...does not seem to be a great fit to me. During a power outage, you then cannot drive somewhere without killing power. If you are on a trip your house will lose power (happened to me, lost fridge and a gold fish). If you want to use TOU and use battery when...
I am not a lawyer, but California has very liberal employment law. To say you worked at Tesla and now not work a rival company with the skills you developed at Tesla would not cut it. Are they not allowed to work again? Trade secrets are different, but going to be a complex case for Tesla to...
Yeah, I might no longer be a road trip person either. Anything over 4 hours and I start thinking flights at this point. I used to drive from SF to LA, now I hop on a SW flight (or did)
That said it ~380 miles so one lunch at a fast charger and it would be pretty painless...
Depends on how the Rivian goes, but I'll have a driving age kid in 3 years, so maybe a nice hand-me-down and I'll get a new Rivian 3 years down the road :)
Thoughts on car camping mode with a bit of warm air circulation to stay warm and not get fogged up? Not sure how that would play with battery drain but would be pretty cool...
Big fan of my Camp Chef Woodwind 36". I wanted basically all bells/whistles: WIFI, 4 built-in temp probes, propane attachment called a Sidekick w/removable griddle & removeable grill box. Been fun and works great.
I give Rivian some slack. They are a start-up, delivering product number 1 from ideation to mass production. I don't think that is appropriate for most automotive buyers outside folks a bit on the fringe. If its a close tie between a first gen completely novel EV or a mature automotive...
Maybe not THAT version, but I love a Rivian van to compete with the 4wd Sprinter...even though they are ICE, those custom diesel 4wd Sprinters are absolutely sweet. If Rivian came along w/ an electric version, that would be my R1S replacement :)
I can't wait to be done with ICE vehicles, but there were none that fit my use case - snow, offroad, storage, moderate towing and 300+ miles. As soon as I saw the Rivian it was like "ding ding!" lol.
I know price is subjective, but I was pleasantly surprised w/ the cost because around here...
At this point I just want the car, so happy with the launch edition - not going to wait. The tech w/ EV's is moving quickly, and I anticipate owning this car for only a few years (or giving it to daughter) and then getting the next gen 2-3 years down the road...something about my kids never...
My concern with the 22" is range...21's w/ inserts even at 5% is a big deal for me @ 15+ miles. The unique tire size does not really bother me unless the specific perellis have issues - I guess that is a risk, but hopefully Rivian put them through some testing. Cost does not really bother me...

These are the spots I like to go to at least :)
I have a Thule that swings out Sao access the back with three bikes on is possible, but still a pain. The extension when parallel parking is also a bummer. Maybe just the way it goes, but would be awesome if someone engineered something integrated or novel.
The model I have I believe is the...
Well, the best ones I have seen have been tire mount that fold down. They impact total length zero and have no impact on day to day access to the rear of the vehicle. So, remove the tire and add an attachment point or boss that is designed for various accessories - ski/snowbard rack, bikes...
As I mentioned I am definitely in the R1S camp - mainly due to me being a urban dweller. The one thing I dislike about my current SUV is the hitch mount bike carrier on the back. It sticks out 1.5 feet and makes opening the rear door a two step process. Taking it on and off for a ride and...
