  1. Installing HomeAssistant to capture Rivian API data - DIY How-to

As discussed in various other threads like Analyze your Rivian's data with ChatGPT AI there is a widely used home automation platform that is fully open source that can help collect and store your data: HomeAssistant I have been using it for several years and was actually writing my own version...
  2. Analyze your Rivian's data with ChatGPT AI

Added a few more comments for clarity and fixed some of the formatting and typos from the iPhone.
  3. Gen 1 Battery Discharge update for 2024.47.01 and 2024.51.01

That is one thing that the Rivian API currently does not provide: battery temp. Have been thinking about how to capture it, but short of going on the CAN bus and capturing it with a tiny ESP32 chip, I have not yet found a way to do it. might really put together a tiny ESP32 device for that and...
  4. Service campaign message

During my recent service in November they changed the 12V battery and listed 2 more service campaign issues.
  5. Analyze your Rivian's data with ChatGPT AI

In this simple example and in another thread already explained: Since firmware .51 the State of Charge (SoC) % can no longer be trusted in the first 2-4 days of parking a Rivian. It will say you gained charge or the truck did not discharge at all until day 3 when it starts catching up with...
  6. Vampire drain improvements coming in upcoming software updates; Gen 2 designed to have best-in class vampire drain when Gear Guard is ON.

Less. Concerned about drain with Gear Guard on. An Tesla looses 5% or more per day with Sentry on. More concerned about losses with gear guard off. Multiples threads going on about it right now.
  7. Analyze your Rivian's data with ChatGPT AI

That is me having a little fun for the demo. Shows how far theses systems have come. Not like Python, R or SAS that were super sterile data tools.
  8. Severe phantom drain OR not? And Proximity Locking Q

Unfortunately SoC % since firmware .51 is now also very misleading in the first 48-72h of parking. See the threads on firmware or how to analyze with ChatGPT.
  9. Analyze your Rivian's data with ChatGPT AI

Lots of things going on with Rivian vehicles under the cover. Also significant changes happening from firmware to firmware update. Seeing lots of discussions about phantom drain, charge rates, range. As a data analytics person and former data scientist (and electrical engineer) I like data. My...
  10. Gen 1 Battery Discharge update for 2024.47.01 and 2024.51.01

FYI The estimated range is somewhat getting corrected but at times just goes off the rails. At some points the reported range drops by half before recovering with the next update. All that capacity manipulation seems to be throwing the range calculation off every so often.
  11. R1S Gen2 Won't Recognize LED Trailer Lights, Service Center Says Software Fix Could Take a Year

Can confirm that our Gen 1 R1T Quad does not have that issue. Works with very low power LEDs connected. Was actually surprised it caught a broken wire with that setup.
  12. Severe phantom drain OR not? And Proximity Locking Q

Similar experience with the lock at home. Have it disabled for the same reason as the car would go on and off all day long whenever my wife or I would go to the fridge or trash in or near the garage or driveway. When parked inside not a big deal, but outside it’s no good to forget to lock it...
  13. Reminiscence: Photos of Rivian R1T Prototypes in the Documentary, "Long Way Up" (2020)

What an amazing memory. Remember watching the series and getting lots of inspiration from it. Did not know I would end up with a Rivian. Bought a Zero Motorcyle that year for our Europe trips and did a 3000 miles trip on it through the Austrian and Italian Alps. Charging the motorcycle every...
  14. Gen 1 Battery Discharge update for 2024.47.01 and 2024.51.01

Quick update at the end of the weekend. The pattern is becoming more clear and understandable for the 51 firmware. Initially derate the battery as fast or faster than energy is consumed: SoC is flat or increases slightly in the first 24h. Then it flattens until approx 36h into parking because...
  15. Tools and Retainer for DIY service and mods

Have been looking for tools and retainers/clips to safely work on stuff and know that if a retainer breaks (because it was stuck too hard) I have spares. Found a great kit on Amazon that comes with everything I need to work n my Rivian. Turns out one of my clips for the driver side frunk...
  16. New here and have a question relating to 2025 R1S Tri-Motor

14-50 plug and adapter as others said. Regarding charging rate: A good rule of thumb is to stay 20% below the breaker. So if that outlet is on a 50A breaker, charge with up to 40A and you will be fine - assuming everything is done to code.
  17. Tonneau covers: rivian 0 for 2.

Sorry to hear about your issues. Was at first disappointed I could not get the automatic cover for my build. Got the manual version later on. But its simplicity has grown on me. I can remove it in 30 sec and reinstall it in about the same time. About to head to the Alps with mine and would not...
  18. Gen2 Tri poor DCFC speeds

Highly recommend getting a HomeAssistant instance connected to your Rivian. It logs all data in near realtime in your personal instance and not somebody else’s cloud. Here is an example: last Tesla supercharger session at our local IKEA. Batterie was not preconditioned and peaks just before 50%...
  19. Gen2 Tri poor DCFC speeds

Yes definitely one of the weak spots of the Rivians in general. 10-50% on Gen 1 is ok, but then it drops off considerably too.
