I have a Gen 1 and it works poorly with large trucks to the right of me, the display shows them jumping into my lane, or sometimes phantom cars next to the truck, then the R1T slows down if D+ is engaged. It almost makes D+ unusable, since I cannot pass a truck in the lane to the right of me.
To convert, it requires extra contactors in the vehicle to meet safety isolation requirements. Those are inside of the battery housing, so the battery has to be opened up, and may or may not have room for extra contactors. $$$$$$
Google maps now has that, but Rivian has not enabled it yet. I found the EA status recently on my iPhone, then checked Google maps in my Hummer and the count/use shows up. The Hummer also shows Ionna and a bunch of other networks that Rivian is missing.
Plugshare and Apple maps are still...
Google just got access to EA live status, I noticed it on my phone. Not sure when Rivian will display this, but my Hummer now has it. Maps in the Hummer update every 2 weeks.
My bad Tesla experiences have been in Quartzsite coming from SoCal and in Dolan Springs (twice) on trips to Vegas. Each of those times I could only get 120-140kw, and that was the case with my Rivian, and with my Hummer. On my last trip there with the Hummer the EA in Kingman gave me 325kw and...
Have you been able to use the Rivian app to start the charge on a non-Rivian? I tried this once with my Hummer, and it forced me to use a CC. The app kept stating it could not connect to charger, maybe because it was in a remote area with poor cell service.
It does appear that the GM discount...
Rivian chargers are the most expensive in CA and AZ. I have EA and Tesla memberships and typically pay $0.42 to $0.54/kwh on my trips. I am headed to Burbank from Phoenix this weekend and will use EA and Tesla. Driving my Mach E on this trip, it is more efficient and has BlueCruise.
I have not done this in my Rivian, since the Google maps update, but I had this situation on a recent trip in my GM vehicle with Google. I was heading to an EA station and on their app it was full, so I had a Tesla charger about 50 miles away I could go to. I selected the EA station waypoint...
GM offers the same capability, then when you are logged in, you get the Waze alerts and reporting features on the nav display as well (on GM vehicles you can also install Waze in the vehicle and log into it). And trip planning, including charging stops, can then be done on your phone in Google...
I think charging speed and price depends on where you live. For me in Arizona, EA is slightly cheaper than Tesla, I have memberships for both, and Tesla chargers derate the charging speed in the summer heat all the time (lucky to get a steady 120kw). I also have an 800V vehicle and charging...
They finally installed a 1000V/500kw V4 in Redwood City CA, but it is not open to other EVs yet, until they do more testing. Our Mach E has the same port location as the Equinox, and it is a pain on the V3, but I have always made it work.
Back in 2023 I did a trip Phoenix to Tahoe and ran my 22 R1T in conserve mode. The outbound was in a lot of wind and rain, the return was very nice weather.
Phoenix to Tahoe in some rain and wind, used I-10 into CA:
Return trip, used I-40 instead of I-10:
With my Gen 1 I have never worried about this. If I leave the truck to go into a store and my wife is in the passenger seat, the truck stays running. Did they change something for Gen 2?
Although I really like my Gen 1 R1T, I doubt I would get another Rivian. Four things that are disappointing:
1) Lack of 800V charging
2) Poor ADAS system
3) Mediocre navigation, even with the latest Google version
4) No satellite radio (a must in remote areas of AZ and CA)
I also have a...
I decided to try this feature, even though I am all set up to avoid peak hours. I tell it I have APS and it comes back with a single plan that I do not have at my house. APS offers 4 different electricity options that can be chosen, but Rivian seems to have no knowledge of the other 3. The...
