I wonder if this is round 2 of preemptive battery replacement...

That said, I keep everything that can wake the truck turned off and keep a small (1 watt - I think) battery maintainer on when the T is parked. I saw (here on the forum) that a dead 12 volt battery will brick the truck - that got my attention.

Not a fatal flaw for me (yet) - but definitely a design / engineering issue - along with the wet carpet / AC condensate thing.

$500 is a lot for an imported battery that doesn't usually last more than a few years.

I've been pretty happy with my hybrid F150 even though it's a Ford. I might replace it with a new one and simply sell the R1S outright. I like having the propower 240V on the Ford. Plus with the Ford I am more incognito as it blends in with the millions of others on the road.
I agree with the incognito aspect. My frontrunner was a GX550, but those are basically unobtainium unless I want to buy a used one. Even with all my little tricks to skip lines, the scarcity is too much unless I want to waste 10-15K on a markup; even then, it might be 6mo to a year to get it. So now I'm looking at a Ram RHO. I feel like it's a decent bridge between the R1S and a conventional pickup, as it's 540 HP and a 4.6-second 0-60. The Ram widebody will stick out a bit more than a conventional truck but less than my R1S does.

I'm going to trade, as my R1 is less than 2 years old and the tax advantage of trading outweighs the lower price of selling 3rd-party. I have a service shopping for a deal for me right now on my preferred color and options package for the RHO.

Using Deliverd? Good luck with the purchase. If you trade in your Rivian will you still be on this forum? You have added a lot to the discussion.

I think there is another round underway. Mine was preemptively replaced during unrelated appointment at start of ā€˜24. Then again earlier this year after receiving a message from Rivian. I take this to mean it’s possible service life (single) could be not much longer than 1.5 years. But that’s speculation. There’s also been an uptick of owners reporting 12V since installing latest OTA. But correlation isn’t causation.

As for my own question earlier regarding Xcare coverage… looked it up. 12V is not covered.

I am using Delivrd. Hopefully that "good luck" wasn't sarcastic, because you know something about them that I do not. This is my first time using the service, and it seems pretty straightforward and decent so far. I will probably still be in here occasionally. I am not opposed to Rivian in the future, but I will no longer own one without a local service center.

I don't really even begrudge Rivian for changing their mobile service policy. It makes sense from a money burn perspective. It does somewhat screw people who live far from a service center, which is a shame, as I've been a Rivian customer since 2022. I know it wasn't personal, and although I wasn't privy to the meetings where this policy change was decided, I can assume that Rivian figured an acceptable percentage of owners live within a reasonable distance from current service centers.
