There are quite a few of us (myself included) that have 20" wheels and OEM 275/65/20 Pirelli AT tires and are interested in any potential efficiency gains in switching to an AS tire of the same size and not re calibrating to the smaller 275/60/20 tire (33" diameter). As ATL R1S said, the Defender MS/2 is not available in the OEM size. Only the Defender LTX Platinum is and opinions and experiences seem to vary as to actual efficiency gains. Any actual data for this specific case would be appreciated.
THIS.

I switched to Pirelli Scorpion AS 20s on my R1S from the ATs. I love the AS - much better tires. Super quiet, significantly improved ride and handling. And the efficiency jumped to be identical to 21s. I now get an average of 2.4 m/kwh, adjusted for the slight difference in diameter (Rivian won't calibrate a non OEM tire). The AS has a very slightly lower maximum weight rating that the AT but it is by far within the safety margin.

Did you get a local shop to replace them as I know discount tires won’t do it. Also, any issues at all and how long have you been running them now ?

I'm talking about folks that had 21" and switched to 275/60/20 wheels. According to tires size caluclator, the new 275/60/20 is 0.3% LARGER in diamter of the 21" . Literally 32.9" to 33". I don't see the need to get rivian to re calibrate.
So you're saying the 275/60/20 Defender wheels get better mileage (calibration or not) than the 21" OEM setup? To be clear 275/65/20 (OEM size-spec) tires do not get better efficiency (or at least it's not clear from other posters) than 21" OEM setup.

I would say it is the same as the OEM 21" set up since it is almost identical in diamter. Different tires could easily be better than the OEM 21" . I see a few here that used Pirelli scorpion 275/60/20 AS plus 3 that achieved better than the 21".

275/65/20 OEM is at 34.1" diamter compared to 32.9" of the 21" OEM. That is why efficiency is less.

Came here looking for tire options, now I'm stressed out. Damn the easy way. ?
Good discussion though, keep it up!

I ordered the tires from Walmart (!) and had them installed at a local shop. I did this almost a year ago. No issues at all. The improvement in comfort is great over the ATs in every way. And silence. The efficiency improvement is also a step change. I easily get 350 miles per charge on road trips in Conserve mode @65-70 mph.

The handling and ride are so good I can't understand why Rivian didn't make a version of the AS +3 tires OEM.

Did you have to ask Rivian to switch you from the vehicle showing you’re on 20s to 21?

That is one impressive number. How is this tire traction compared to the stock Pirelli? Did you switch from 21" and 22" or just changing the tire size from 20"

You’d have to ask ‘SolartoEV’, his setup…
Always tradeoffs with handling, efficiency and performance….for most, sticking with OEM sizes is the way to go…very few people here actually need the big heavy 50 plus tires, most who go that route see the 1.6 mi/kwh and instantly regret it…

How do you like these tires other than efficiency? Noise, road comfort, handling, traction ...

They won't do it. You just mentally have to make a 3% adjustment in your head to account for the (very) slightly smaller diameter of the AS3+ tires compared to the AT.

What I gave found is just the overall range estimator never adjusts away from the 20 AT baselines. The the "live" range remaining estimator on any given trip regularly recalculates and is accurate.

When you look at the spreadsheet, and you filter by weight and speed rating, and load index, it seems like the Nokian One HT is a pretty clear winner. Is anyone running these tires?

@skyote where you at? He had OEM 20" ATs and just installed 275/65/20 LTX Platinums recently. He mentioned on their latest Rivian Stories video and on Twitter that he will be doing a video review on the new tires soon.
