They should have used this update to bring Launch mode to GEN 1 quad and Dual Performance ! I bet that would have excited more people to impulse buy the performance mode.

So did you just "feel like you couldn't see", but actually could see everything you needed? I'm not trying to be a smartass here. Getting used to reverse cameras took me some time too as there was this "I just don't trust it feeling", but now I have no doubts and look at the screen and haven't once ever hit something like a curb.

Maybe once this update hits I'll turn the auto tilt on and back up to a curb to take a picture with my phone of what I see in the mirror compared to what I see on the screen from the camera for a side by side comparison. I'm just thinking there won't be much, if any of a difference.
I will preface by saying this is very much a subjective/preference thing.

But in my Mom's case, the garage is very tight, with another vehicle on the left side, and the wall of the grage on the right. With the mirrors in their normal position I can see all down the sides of the body and see how close I am on either side. With the mirrors pointed down, I'm just looking at the rear tires. So backing out of a tight garage, once the rear tires are out I don't really care because I know they're free and clear. Meanwhile the sides of the vehicle that are still in the tight spot are not visible in the mirrors.

Obviously not THAT big of a deal as I have eyeballs and a neck so I can turn and look, but just a preference thing.

I believe they have done this already. I recall a statement saying that the hardware platform for gen 1 isn’t able to support the advanced ADAS features.
I'm calling BS on that. It's because they could set-up a subscription model for ADAS

after 30 seconds it will pause, lightly press accel pedal to resume

I doubt it's hardware, and more that it's something they could put behind a subscription service.
My 2021 FORD Mustang Mach-E (like the Lightning) bluecruise worked so much better than Driver+ and it was non-vertically integrated, less cameras, less sensor. I am not expecting all the features of RAP+ , non-do i care about full "self driving", to me self driving is me driving mySELF where i need to go, but i expect Driver+ to be better and more stable. why isn't there even a resume feature like typical cruise control.
The way that Ford's mobile eye systems perform isn't necessarily an indicator for how Rivian's mobiley eye system should perform. Remember, Mobile eye has multiple products, with multiple revisions that all have different capabilities.

I can think of a few possible reasons why the one Rivian went with might be less capable than Ford's. For example
- Ford is a MUCH larger company with much more leverage. When Rivian was sourcing parts for Gen 1, they may not have been able to get a higher end system from mobile eye at a reasonable price (RJ has mentioned more than a few times how difficult supply chain sourcing was for Gen 1)
- Maybe Rivian intentionally got a lower end system with less capability because they were intending to inject their own software anyway (a plan which clearly didn't work out for them)

All of this is speculation, of course. But all this to say, I don't think Rivian is INTENTIONALLY kneecapping Gen 1 driver assistance performance. I think it just is what it is. Certainly it's to their advantage, as it's a selling point for the newer stuff, but I don't think it's intentional segmentation.

I get it and subjective/preference shouldn't be disregarded. And ya', should never throw out the old fashioned turn and look. But regardless I'm happy that they're doing it for those that prefer to use it even if I don't! Now if they'd get Waze integration and reading text messages....

Absolutely! I will 100% NOT be using that feature, but it will certainly make a lot of folks happy, so I'm glad it's there.

Is there supposed to be a new app update as well? Though I I read something about version 2.20 in the release notes but there’s no update available in the App Store

Yes! Often times a new app update will go hand in hand with a new vehicle update. Said to say that it will likely be well into next week at least that we will get the vehicle update since the app hasn't updated yet

This doesn't make sense, mainly because the subscription applies to Gen 1 as well. So if they are charging Gen 1 owners for connect+ the same amount they are charging for Gen 2 owners your theory doesn't match up with what's going on.

My point with Ford is that that they are a doing more with less, when Rivian like Tesla states that having vertical integration should give you more with less. Even the ADS is my wife's cheap Subaru works better than driver+.

Even If that's the case, they still over promised and under delivered for Gen 1. Again, I'm reasonable. segment, do what you need to do as a business, but driver+ on a vehicle like this should at lease be on par with the adaptive cruse control found down market,

I don't need advanced features like hands free, self-driving or even auto lane change, I just want a good stable adaptive CC, with lane centering and departure warnings without needing mapped roads like a normal car that has come out in the last 8 years.

He's referring to the RAP+ subscription. It hasn't begun yet, but they're planning on charging a subscription for autonomy features on gen 2

No. In adaptive cruise it will start moving forward. This sounds like a chime to alert you that traffic has moved ahead if you've spaced out or (more likely) are looking at your phone. I really missed this feature when I got my Rivian.

On a related note, adaptive cruise is pretty disappointing in stop and go traffic because, if traffic stops for more than a short period of time (30 secs or so) it simply turns itself off, which is annoying.
I guess I'm confused about the utility then if you're already in adaptive cruise (unless it shut itself off)? Why do you need a chime if the car will move anyway once the vehicle in front of you moved?

This is for in city driving. So if you're not paying attention to when the light turns green, and traffic starts to move, it'll chime to get your attention to tell you to go

Only if there is a car in front of you, which adaptive cruise will also do. The utility is only if it's tied to the light like the Tesla one is so it works if you're the first car.
Am I the only one that sets adaptive cruise to like 10mph over the speed limit in stop and go traffic or the city so that I don't have to keep stopping and going?
