I've got a 2025 R1S Tri and am always excited for any new sound improvements.

Overall, I actually felt the bass was less impactful than before but maybe some of the sound stage sounded wider. I haven't spent much time listening yet but it's not an obvious improvement to me.

I took a spectrum analyzer sample for the same section of a song over Bluetooth at volume level 10 before and after the 2025.34 update. See Below.

While the spectrum looks a little flatter after (usually a good thing on the audio world), the major thing that stands out is that it's a lot quieter in the bass range. The peaks around 70 and 100 hz are roughly 8dB lower which is much quieter. A 10dB drop would be perceived as half as loud.

Caveat here is that this is a free app from the app store and I was holding my phone in approximately the same place but not exactly. The peaks of each spectrum over the section of the song are the grey bars, the orange is just the instantaneous you can ignore those.

That being said, it lines up with my anecdotal experience in that with certain songs, I could feel the bass in my chest at volume 15 in a way that I can't anymore.

Thought people might find this interesting. I wouldn't say this is conclusive of anything but just adding some data to my perception.

I have the same feeling. It's as if the bass has disappeared compared to what it was before. The overall sound is better, but there is minimal bass now.

If your EQ is flat, no DSP, dip the highs and turn it up, if that’s what your ears tell you. :)

Audio-Technica also has an app that includes RTA and tone generator with several options if you want to try tuning it.

I believe it accepts external mic as source. You could go mic stand and decent mic…

I have the same experience. Overall, sound is better, but the bass presence has dropped off. I was trying to compensate with EQ but found it required settings too extreme to keep the overall profile balanced.

I came from a Model Y previously, and one thing I liked there that feels like it could be useful here was the dedicated sub volume. I'm not sure if it was truly a volume slider or something that under the hood was just EQ, but I really just want to tune the sub and get that punch back.

I also have an R1S TRI and have noticed the bass is way too low. It was very noticeable.

Same thing here, dramatic reduction in bass. Apple music sounds noticeably better vs spotify for some reason either with spatial audio on or off, but there is a setting in apple music to level the sound that I had to click off, otherwise the overall volume of Apple music was very low.

Yea the sound stage setting, or whatever it is called, ruins the sound but that’s been true for a while now.

I agree. I have a aftermarket sub and the new update made it very weird now, it’s hard to dial it in correctly. The deep low rumbling bass is still hard hitting but all bass above that is much weaker. It’s a weird combo.

Yeah, same here bass feels a lot weaker after the update. The soundstage is wider, but that chest thumping low end just isn’t there anymore. EQ helps a bit, but it’s not the same.

This supports what you said before when I posted that I felt the bass is stronger. So weird. I did more listening today and I ended up cutting back the bass a little because it does seem stronger now to me. Obviously I am in the minority so I will keep listening and maybe come to the same conclusion as you.

I'm wondering if I need to restart or something possibly. Sometimes the updates don't work right out of the gate.

I think you hit the nail on the head there, for a system with a dedicated sub across both generations, it always feels like the the 6x9's in the door do all the heavy lifting.

No audiophile here but the bass lost its punch imo.
