Took delivery of our Canyon Red R1S last weekend - trading in a 2016 ModelX (and I also currently own ModelY)

General thoughts - Rivian Build quality seems good, driving experience is enjoyable (but obviously different from the ModeX).

Software, though, is definitely a bit of a mixed bag. It feels VERY unfinished/buggy/underdesigned relative to the Tesla's. (In terms of the in-vehicle software and also the iOS app). Today I was particularly missing the way Tesla will show (and continue updating) the location of the vehicle in the app when my wife is coming home, etc.

But there's a few things I'm seeing that I wonder if are bugs and/or if anyones has experienced. For what it's worth I've done both a soft (two steering-wheel buttons) and hard (button+Hazard) reset and still seeing these issues.

-Most disappointing was the fact that I plugged the R1S into a wall outlet last night and when I came back in the morning I actually had about 15 FEWER miles on the car than when I plugged it in last night. WTF? The R1S was apparently 'running' as well - something was going on with HVAC maybe? The garage was noticeably warmer too... so the car was giving off heat all night.

-Probably related - if I exit the car with the music playing, it will CONTINUE TO PLAY even after I lock the car. This isn't by design is it? It just feels like the car's not able to go to sleep the way my Teslas do.

-Navigation system is mostly blank. I see the traffic overlays, but the actual roads are invisible. I've seen others mention this but haven't seen a fix. Is everybody just living with this for now?

I'm not to the point where I'm actually _regretting_ the purchase, but I'm also a bit shocked at how janky some of this stuff feels. Was hoping that, by waiting for the 2nd generation, I'd be getting a reasonably polished experience.

Unfortunately (per the app) it looks like I'm already on 2024.35.0. Unless, perhaps, it updated last night and THAT was what interrupted my charging session and started to drain the battery? Wife has the car now so will check the other issues later tonight.

Best bet is start a chat in your rivian app and they will get back to you fast.

I had an error and they asked me to do both soft and hard reset. But let them guide you so that you uplaod the error code to them in real time while you are in the chat.

Shot in the dark here, but maybe there's an issue with either the door latch or the door sensor not registering that the door is closed all the way. That would explain why the music keeps playing (it's based on a door being open) and why it didn't charge (door being open = car being awake).

A few ways to test this is if the door handles are out, the car is unlocked and awake. If the door handles are in, the car is locked and (after a while) asleep. The other way is when you're at home and the car is plugged in, open the app on your phone and check the status. It'll tell you if a door is open, a window is open, and if the car is charging. If you see the notification that the door is open, then that's probably the issue. Rivian doors need to be slammed pretty hard to close properly, at least in my Gen 1 R1T. I wonder if the electric door release with the Gen 2 changed that at all.

With the nav system, mine does this sometimes too. Even with the latest update all the music apps will say "cannot connect" or whatever that error code is for a bit. I live in a building and my car is parked 3 levels underground with 12 floors of concrete and steel above me so there is NO reception in there. Once I start driving it takes a few minutes, but it fixes itself. Maybe try and tether your phone's wifi hotspot to the car for the first few seconds of driving to give the car's signal a few minutes to connect. That works for me.

Also just a note that if you leave a front seat belt latched the car will not go to sleep and sound system and HVAC will stay on. Never happened to me but I have read about this here.

Not sure if you have a Tesla charger at home but you can use a level 2 Tesla charger at home with your Rivian if you get a Tesla to J-1772 adapter like the A2Z Stellar Tesla to J-1772 adapter. This is the same adapter you will use for Tesla destination chargers commonly found in hotels / Parking lots / Shopping centers and Airbnb. This is a much better option than using level 1 charging.

Also one more tip I would recommend is set your vehicle to lock only at home so it doesn't unlock when in close proximity and waste energy especially on level 1.

You will need the DC Level 3 Typhoon Pro adapter to charge your Rivian at eligible Tesla Superchargers.

You can bundle the A2Z Stellar AC Level 2 Tesla to J-1772 adapter for $75 additional after discount by using the drop down on the Level 3 Typhoon Pro adapter page to get both adapters.

Feel free to use the below links or forum discount code "RIV" to save on products sold on A2Z website and get free shipping.

Tesla To J1772 adapter (Tesla Destination Charger for Hotels / Shopping centers) | Up to 80A | 20kW | 12 Months Warranty

TYPHOON PRO | NACS DC CHARGERS to CCS1 Adapter | 500A | 1000V | DC | 12 Months Warranty

These cars aren’t ready man. Especially if you compare them to teslas. I only own one because my wife fought me on getting a second Tesla. The reliability and far out service appointments scare me more than the crap software

There definitely are issues, and I live 40 miles from Normal so service has been excellent, but my Ts have been much better than my son's Y. Service has been also, and there is a Tesla center in Normal also.

On my 1 week old 2025 Canyon Red R1S (is there a club we could join?), the music stays on when I get out. I haven't tested how long it stays on, but long enough to be an annoying "feature." So I pause it before I get out now.

Ok, I believe it's (as PeterSK mentioned) something to do with seat belt latches. Specifically we've got this dog-leash thing that clicks into the seatbelt latch and my wife sometimes just leaves it clicked in. This was never a problem with the Tesla (you can be sitting in the Tesla and it will still shut itself off after about 10 minutes. A quick tap on the brake pedal will wake it up again).

Seems like Rivian's design of 'never shut the car off until the entire battery is drained' may not be the best idea... Sigh.

As noted above... Rivian's got quite a ways to go to catch up to Tesla's software systems. Which, fair enough, Tesla's been at it for like a decade and a half. Still... there's a lot of sensible stuff that Tesla's done that they could learn from and just replicate!

Meanwhile... I still don't see any streets or street names on my nav system. Still waiting a call back on that one. Have done multiple resets at this point...
