I wonder how much weight savings there is for 5 seat vs 7 seat.
Also, they should be charging at least $2k-3k more for 7 seat config, this would be easy money. It costs them more to make the 7 seater

has CS or Rivian stated with any certainty that a "Max pack" R1S will only be available as a 2-row 5-seater? Meaning the fold-down 3rd row seats must be sacrificed for the add'l battery pack volume beneath the floor.

That was my understanding from many months (years?) ago. And as far as I'm aware there's still no "official" max pack offering for the R1S. Or even ability to select 5 vs. 7 seats, at least not that I've seen. My LE configuration didn't offer that, anyway. It's 7 seats only. Which is what I wanted, not a complaint, just haven't seen them roll out the ability to configure # of seats.

Play around with Configurator for R1S now and you'll see there is a choice now for a "no-price increase" selection between a 5 & 7 seater vehicle. There is still no way to pick a Max Pack. Its kind of weird that you can get the 3rd row for "free". Since it folds down nearly flat why wouldn't everyone get it? Perhaps those that just want a no-brainer highest cargo space setup. But looking at resale value alone nearly mandates picking the 7-seater.

You've been able to configure 5-seat Adventure or Explore package from day 1. By definition, Launch Edition is 7-seat only.

There is currently no "Max" battery pack offering for R1S but Rivian has been stating since about the time of the configurator launch that they would, at some point in the future, be offering a longer range R1S with 7 seats (people have been assuming this will also be available for the 5 seater but the web site doesn't explicitly state that). Remains to be seen when/if that might actually happen and what that battery capacity might be (Max range is likely to be less than the 400+ miles of the R1T).

The weight difference is likely trivial given how heavy these vehicles are.
Seven seat is the default given the target market segment. I am amazed they gave the option of five seats as this adds manufacturing complexity and variety for very little gain (fold the seats down and you get the same length of flat floor with a minimal loss of height).

I changed my config from 5 to 7 seats, hopefully this gets the delivery quicker, and pricing is still just "Estimated". I guess we will see closer to the actual date

I know this is an older Twitter post, but I haven't seen it posted much (so hopefully it may be new for others here too). I actually don't have Twitter so I rarely know what's there unless there's a link given to me.

A little better view of the rear area (3 row configuration) seats folded down. I was curious what "nearly flat" meant and it looks very flat, but the entire thing seems to be raised a couple of inches from the trunk floor. Probably losing a tiny bit of height.

Again, this is from March of 2021 so who knows if the design changed any in this area.

I remember that Tweet. And my unanswered question about whether or not 4x8 stuff will fit...

Looks like a decent amount of usable space. I’ll have to wait until I see it in person to see if I need to put a false floor in for the pups though.

The Jeep GC has no gaps when I fold the seats so it is fine for them. This looks like there are some gaps that they could catch their legs in, not good on a moving vehicle. Hopefully it is OK but I’ll be sure to err on the side of caution if need be once I see it.

From my understanding (I forgot where I saw it), you should be able to fit something that's 48" wide in there. But obviously if it were 8 feet long, it would stick out.

I'm a little confused by what's going on on these sides in the cargo area. What are those silver pieces, and why doesn't the cover/floor stretch all the way to the left and right to create a smooth floor? There also looks to be an incline in the floor of a few inches from the back of the bumper to the back of the 3rd row seats.

I’m sure there is an incline, they have always said mostly flat.

The section you highlighted as well the sides and top of the folded 3rd row are where the concerns for the pups are.
