A little surprised with all the Shop inventory...

getting the dual motors is not going to change the price materially for those who ordered before 3/1/21. go to the configurator and config a dual motor, you'll see youre paying the same if not more than the quad pre-3/1 price hike. and they've said anyone who is pre-3/1 order who switches to dual will then being paying the regular, current price for your vehicle.

Oh I realize that. I am assuming that making those motors is cheaper for Rivian, so even if there are fewer orders due to them being over the $80k cap, they might make a little bit on those vehicles compared to using the Bosch motors. I am just guessing of course…

When I got access to the shop last Oct there were like 40 in there at the time. I think its just timing on how many are there. I think it goes up and down dramatically based on when they put them in and how many people have access to the shop.

Why would Rivian give you Shop access after you are matched to a specific VIN? So you can take one orphan, but create another? What am I missing?

that’s my point. No need to even get in the shop if I’m matched to my specific build.

They're still dealing with supply shortages (chips, etc). When I got mine way back in June, he said there 30+ trucks I could choose from. Only a select few were configured the way my order was. June was peak time for EV's, so that many being available means nothing. Likely trucks built that were waiting for a single part before they could be released. Their lot probably has hundreds of trucks sitting on it. Same was true for Tesla and Ford.

To be fair I’ve been “matched” to a VIN for over a month no movement. I considered asking to get back on the shop due to the delay. My original estimate was Dec-Jan now I’m probably looking at a April delivery now.

I was invited a couple weeks ago and keep checking inventory and it is overflowing with trucks (>30), especially if you like white. I wonder if this is a good sign (yippie production is at full tilt) or a bad sign (these are orphans)?

That's because all of us with R1 access are holding out for power tonneau covers!

If I knew that I would be able to upgrade after getting a manual or no cover option, I'd have already picked out a truck from the shop.

Do you get alerted via email when access to the shop is granted? I'm pressing on my guide to get me access, but I'm not confident it will happen since it appears to be for Launch holders only right now. Unfortunately my wife's Jeep is on it's last leg and I'm being forced to search for other cars in case Rivian continues to slip.

(side note the car market is still BS crazy right now. A new Sequioa is selling for 10-20K over MSRP LOL)
