We took delivery of our R1S (and traded in our R1T) last Wednesday (10/18). It was chilly that evening in ATL and we were the latest P/U. Because we already owned a R1 we took delivery and the guide peaced out pretty quickly. No one but us left at the service/ sales center. We checked everything, but didn’t notice that the AC wasn’t blowing COLD. It wasn’t until we’d driven home and I was driving the next morning to our rivian supercharger and got warm, that I noticed I couldn’t get cabin cooler than 78*. AC set at 68*. Tried a vehicle hard reset and messing with the temp. No luck.
Called service 18hours after picking up R1S ?. Heading back to ATL on tues to leave it with service center.
Any one else dealt with similar issues? Input on what it might be?
Not excited at the fact I’ll have 10+ hours of driving to fix issue. And bc they told be they can’t put me in a rivian while I wait (we need at least 3 rows for 4 kids).

Don’t worry about the rental. Just insist you get a car that fits your needs. But that is a bummer on the AC.

Just as an idiot check, did you verify the A/C was on and not set to vent?

Sorry this happened to you, OP.

It's pretty common: overcharging (or not charging correctly) the system with coolant from the factory. I was affected as well.

There are some other isolated problems I've seen here and there, but not as common as the overcharging issue.

@R1Thor
Thanks for that info. How long was your R1 in the shop for that fix?

This was before the shops started getting stupendously busy, so it was only in the shop for about a weekend, fortunately for me. I literally dropped it off on a Friday and picked it up that following Monday. I was also having no other service performed for that one (just the AC service; they deemed that an 'emergency').

I would think they could probably take care of an AC charge issue in an hour or so, but I wouldn't be encouraged to think they could take care of the issue while you wait--if you poke around the forums, you'll notice that some people are noticing their vehicles sitting for a week or more before they're even worked on, due to the backlogs and availability of technicians. It'll definitely depend on your service center.

When you drop it off, ask them if they can check the amount of coolant in the system before you leave. I just had a recall performed on my R1T 2 weeks ago as there's a series that came out of the factory overfilled with coolant...that repair was scheduled for <1 hour.

If it's a simple matter of either too much or too little in the system, then it should be a pretty quick fix. if there's a leak, then it'll take longer.

May be worth asking them about.
