Unfortunately, it seems the R2 ACC/UHF doesn't have automatic speed adjustment to posted speed limit + tolerance like my previous Mach-E. I can't imagine constantly scrolling the wheels to adjust speed on hwy 17, where speed limit changes every mile.
I asked ChatGPT to dig through R2 manual to find out if there is at least a shortcut. It suggested "Pull stalk toward you ~0.5 sec" but then hedged the answer saying there is a small documentation gap as to whether Rivian guarantees that exact gesture while UHF itself is currently active.
Do you know if it works or not?

There's a dedicated scroll wheel on the right stalk just for adjusting speed. I don't find it too cumbersome now that I remember where it is. First few drives I would end up adjusting the HVAC fan speed...

There is something different between R1 gen1,Gen2, and R2 for driver's assist and I must be getting old, because it's hard to remember which one does what sometimes.

ChatGPT already read the pdf manual and it's not certain what the options are.
That's why he told you to read it yourself...

OMFG, you still can’t be bothered to read for an hour regarding your $60k purchase? Unreal.

Also ChatGPT is garbage. Pay for a real AI tool if you don’t want to do any effort.
Really, somebody reads 400+ page manual? Btw, I work with Codex professionally, there is nothing better than 5.6 sol.

The most recent R2 Owner's Guide (August 2026) can be found here:

Thanks, the AI found that also, but it concluded: " the shortcut is documented only on divided highways. On ordinary city roads where R2 Universal Hands-Free now works, Rivian does not document this speed-limit shortcut."
So I guess it's a testing time for me today to find out what works and what doesn't.

Yes. Also, most of the pages are just liability fluff and you skip over them. I've never bought a car before reading the manual fully, and then read it again after buying.

There is nothing better than the junk tool you used that lied to you?

it has an index and can be searched when you have a pdf version. pretty easy to find the specific issue you are looking for.

and no one READS an entire owner's manual page by page; you skim it until you get to something you need more info on.

I’ve been driving for about 40 years and somehow managed to survive without ever reading a car manual cover to cover. I’m not planning to start now, especially since my eyesight has declined at roughly the same rate that owner’s manuals have increased in page count.

That’s one of the reasons tools like AI exist: I can ask a very specific question, have it search 400 pages of warnings about not drinking battery coolant, and point me to the three paragraphs that might actually matter.

I’m also a little puzzled by the hostility toward AI. Yes, it can make mistakes. So can humans. In fact, after spending enough time on Internet forums, I’m beginning to suspect humans may have pioneered the technology.šŸ˜…

My current working theory is that people who think AI is stupid should probably use it more. There is a non-zero chance they may eventually discover which participant in the conversation is actually doing the heavy lifting.😁

Anyway, after reading the whole thread I'm back to square one: I have to try that myself while driving to figure out whether and when it works.
