Advice on Gear Tunnel door dent

I got a gouge on the side of my gear tunnel door, it looks like it didn’t go through the paint but the PPF. I can’t figure out a way to get this dent out without taking the storage cubby out on the gear tunnel door. Has anyone removed that and if so is it fairly easy?

I’m getting quotes of $400 to fix this, and would rather do it myself

I had a similar issue. The gear tunnel door shell is aluminum and very easy to get stretched out. The storage portion comes out very easily...just lift up and it'll pop right off. I would highly recommend having a paintless dent professional look at the door dent and see if they can pull it out.

Well, I was trying to get my father-in-law to help me because he’s taking out dents on vintage cars for decades, but we could not access the dent from behind, so that’s good to know that we can pull it out. I’m gonna try it this evening to see.

Just trying to save a little money after my dumb mistake.

I like to save money too but sometimes it's worth it to avoid frustration and get a pro result. Highly recommend a PDR Pro to restore this. $400 well spent if you ask me.

I have a scratch on driver side gear tunnel door, it looks like paint is ok just the PPF slightly peeled. Rivian recommended a body shop that is Rivian certified and not very close. They basically said the shop can order a precut PPF, peel the old one off and appl

y the new one. I have not contacted them yet, I was thinking about $500 to fix plus the time to take the truck in. Maybe I'll just leave it and get use to it or tired of looking at it and take it in.

Was on a job worksite in WY, and I pulled in to close to a work truck that had a rusted bumper with sharp metal jutting out.

Sensors didn’t go off, but I underestimated the width on the back of the truck and it went right into my truck

I would definitely remove the old one and clean it up real well to ensure no paint was chipped. I used @twraps kit to repair my front PPF after a front end incident. Pulled off the old stuff, cleaned it well, put new on. Can't even tell!

I watched the video and might be able to do myself but it does not show how to remove the old PPF?

Definitely remove the old PPF first. Just peel an edge and pull. If it resists or leaves glue marks - warm it up a bit with a hair dryer. If you end up with glue residue use something like GooGone to get rid of it and then apply IPA to clean the surface from the GooGone. In most cases though none of that would happen and simple peel off would be sufficient and easy.
