Up here in the north east, had a winter storm yesterday which froze up the folded up side mirrors. Being concerned that the motors would break, I disabled the auto opening and closing of the mirrors. Is that common practice for us northern folks?

Yeah. For our Colorado winters I usually disable auto-fold. I'll manually fold to pull into the garage where they won't freeze.

If STL is northern - then yes :D

We disable mirror folding between December and march - as often they freeze shut overnight otherwise.

I had that problem last winter here in PA, my first with the R1T. It only happened once, but it was during a pretty severe Nor'easter, so it was a PITA. This thread just reminded me that I need to disable the mirror auto-fold for the next few months.

Yes I just permanently disabled the mirrors after hearing the awful crunching noises with the ice my first winter. Also disable the auto wipers and proximity unlock at home wish there was a way to just unlock the door without the handles popping out.

Granted I don't need to drive everyday like many do, but I leave the auto-fold on. I definitely disable the auto-wipers in winter though. My windshield won't be "clean" again until April :giggle:

Oh, that minds me, I warmed up the the cab before bring the kid to school. The windows were all clear. But what was wild was I realized why the wipers would keep running from time to time on the way to work. I could hear ice build up just behind the rear view mirror where the cameras, sensors are located. I guess the truck was trying to clear that remaining bit of ice :D

First winter with my R1T here in WI and had my passenger side mirror mechanism disengage trying to open when covered in frozen wet snow. Luckily, cycling the mirrors in and out clicked whatever breakaway mechanism back in place.

Autofold now disabled for the rest of the winter.

Also need to remember to lock the truck before brushing off the snow to keep from filling the door handle wells.

The manual says you can open the doors, if they are unlocked and stuck, by pressing on the forward part of thee handle..

Yes but when they are frozen it still tries to pop them out making all sorts of scary noises, I'm sure eventually it will end up in a costly repair. I've just gotten into the habit of manually pulling the handles on snowy and freezing rain days prior to unlocking from the app just to make sure they aren't frozen shut.

Thanks for the tip.

Yes. I've just made a habit of disabling the auto open/close of the side mirrors from about Dec 1 until probably April. If I know it's not going to be wet and I want to (for whatever reason), it's easy enough to fold the windows manually when I park......the vehicle menu comes up automatically whenever you go into park anyway.

Thanks for the reminder. We just had our first winter storm of the season and I forgot to do that, but I normally do until winter weather is more or less over in the spring.
