Takes a few seconds from time to time. Disappointed? Why? You rob banks for a living and frequently need quick getaway?

It's an issue, but an overblown one.

It is annoying and I wish I could get one of the bracelets but Rivian hasn't released to many yet. I found a few on Ebay but they were sold pretty fast for $89 bucks. Some guy is trying to sell one on there for $650 and I told to stick it where the moon doesn't shine..... LOL. I've owned my truck for a year now and the lag to open sometime drives me crazy but you get use to it!!

I do think for this advanced futuristic awesome Auto Manufacture they should upgrade to inferred so when you walk up to the vehicle it opens.

I park in my driveway so the auto setting to open and close doesn't work for me!

I bought one of those ebay bracelets. Works great, way better than the card (super convenient when I go out for a run or a swim or something to just have that and not have to worry about where to put a key). Rivian seemed sorta displeased about it tho (not mad at me and they added it to my account with a couple hours, but they wanted the name of the seller..they claimed that if it came from another owner, they needed their permission to delink it from their truck. When I said it was an ebay listing and didn't look like it had been used, they guessed the seller's name and asked 'was it this listing?'....my band came from a Normal return address, so maybe an inside job?).

Anyways, the band is great! Wish I could just use my garmin but its a close second

PAAK works better than the fob for me proximity locking and unlocking. I haven’t had a need to use the wrist band key yet.

We took delivery on Saturday and I must say the locking / unlocking is even more annoying than I anticipated. Why couldn't they just have installed a touch sensor on the door so you could lock / unlock by touching it? My 2015 Porsche has this feature and it works great and reliably, 8 years later!

1. There is only one fob, so my wife and I each can't have a fob. Therefore, we must use phones or the cards.
2. We have turned off passive lock / unlock at home because I go in and out of the garage a lot and I am always carrying my phone. Having to pull out my phone and open an app every time I want to unlock my vehicle is absolutely absurd for an $80k vehicle in 2023.
3. Phone proximity unlock isn't working for my wife at all
4. Sometimes we park in the driveway and not the security of our garage. Since we have passive locking turned off at home, there is no way to lock the vehicle without stopping to take out my phone or fob. Again totally ridiculous.

I needed to vent. I am wondering if anyone else is as frustrated as I am.
Totally dissatisfied? No. Occasionally frustrated? Yes.

I use the fob for passive entry/locking, and I'm completely dissatisfied it.

It fails to meet my expectations in the following ways:

Quite a few times it won't unlock for me for a few seconds. It seems to take pleasure in this in recording me and presenting me the video of me awkwardly standing around waiting for it to open.

Occasionally it won't lock. The other day I drove away in my other car and noticed that it was unlocked, but I kept driving to see what would happen. I was at least 3000ft away when I checked the app and saw that it was still unlocked. I came back and opened/shut a door and walked away and it locked just fine. The door was completely shut before and I never got the "vehicle remained unlocked because a door was open" message.

The absolute worst is anytime the key is anywhere close to the vehicle. It doesn't seem to have any hysteresis. Meaning I want it to unlock when I'm really close, but only lock when I'm 50ft+ away. I don't expect this part to be perfect, but it should be much better than it is. I know I can use the "leave off at home" function which would be fine if I always parked it in the garage.

I haven't voiced my frustration to Rivian about it because my chief complaint has been to the tok'ing sound on acceleration/deceleration. It drives me absolutely bonkers. They say its in spec and refuse to do anything about it. I imagine it reduces the value of my vehicle by quite a bit because who wants a vehicle that has loud "tock" sound anytime you accelerate or brake.

It's certainly not the right vehicle for celebrities making a quick getaway from the paparazzis.

Just ask Ben Affleck. :)

Ben Affleck's problems are not mine. And TBH, I don't care what his problems are. For the rest of us... a few seconds of inconvenience is #firstworldproblems that people are making too big of a deal of.

It totally sucks after the last update.

I’ve had some similar problems to you but my BIGGEST gripe is the GPS unit now can’t seem to recognize the car as being at “home”, so I have to keep reprogramming the home address so that it doesn’t unlock and lock every time we walk by it. Such a waste.

Also, Rivian, if you’re listening…. Nobody needs the radio on full blast and A/C full blast if they are just opening the door of the car. For goodness sake please give us a “soft wake” feature, where the radio and AC are off (and please, if it’s nighttime have the lights a little dim) until someone touches the brake or some other trigger (maybe, I don’t know, sitting in the seat?).

I think its important to be fair about what a vehicle excels at, and what needs work.

I think we can nearly all agree that if this was Rivians Annual review that the whole passive entry/locking would be given a "development opportunity" grade.

You mean your radio comes on? I have to turn mine on every time I get in the truck. Then, occasionally, it will magically shut itself back off. Spotify works great. A month ago I had a loaner and the radio didn't work at all. Wasn't a big deal since I logged into spotify, but was told radio connectivity was a "known issue".
For the life of me I can't figure out why Rivian has so many problems with basic stuff (radio, lock/unlock, one touch up down windows, etc). Seems like they tried to fix things that weren't broke. At this price point they need to get better fast.

This really reminds me of the Ben Affleck story.. :).

With that said, I had not tried to use PaaK for about 6 months. I've had it on but just always had my key. Last week I got to the gym, got out of the truck and didn't have my fob in my pocket... Started looking all over and realized I left it at the house. So, got forced to trying it out. It's worked pretty much flawless in the 4 days since. Guess i'll give it a go and just start carrying the card just in case.
Always fun standing next to the truck, and having to say to coworkers, “Give it a few seconds. It will decide if you are worthy…” ;)

It was funky at first but now it's much better. If the car is in a deep sleep, it takes a while to wake up with the phone key. It works much better away from home, than at home when home is turned off.

Sometimes I have this nightmare where I’m being chased and PAAK doesn’t allow me to quickly enter the truck and drive away. Fortunately, I escape my tormentors by just running around the vehicle a couple times until PAAK finally works (or I fumble through my phone and find the Rivian app).

When I'm awake though, PAAK works s00nish for me.
