One piece of info I have not seen any owner share is that if their drain remain the same at low SOCs (20, 10, 5)%. I know it is rare that anyone on purpose let it go that low and sit but if somehow it does happen, whether your norm loss is 4 KWh /day or 1 KWh/day, knowing if it is constant or it goes to near zero loss when things get bad can be helpful. If power loss is reduced, it means Rivian is aware of where the power goes and believes, squeeze is worth the juice. If it remains the same until your battery is dead and you are stranded, my guess is that, they just don’t know what they are doing.

Another thing that would be nice is if 1Kwh guys could compare notes (settings, environment and how they use their R1) with 4 KWh guys to see if they can find something we can control to get it from 4 to 1.

I've recently started tracking my phantom drain over time. With the truck in my 70-80 degree garage, locked, gear guard off, and with all Rivian phone apps force closed and not running (to keep the truck asleep) I've found it loses roughly 3 miles every 5 hours.

At the current estimate of 2.86 mi/kwh, that is a little over a kwh lost in 6 hours, or a constant idle drain of 166wh.

Walking by the truck makes the hazards flash, so that tells me something is awake. Gear guard is off, but I wouldn't be surprised if the security is still on. I'll try logging again with the doors unlocked, maybe it'll actually go to sleep.

My understanding based on what Wassym Bensaid, VP of Software Engineering in Reddit was saying, R1 seem to have a bad case of insomnia. It seems like there are ton of conditions that it keeps an eye on while ”sleep” and when those happen it does a lot of sleep walking. So it sleeps like humans do. We still think and spend energy on heartbeats but not as much as when we are running. I think the days of machines we could turn off is over.

As disappointing as 4 KWh/day of loss is, I have to say congrats on your 370 mile range. Are you running on 21 and conserve? Mostly local roads?

That was running on local roads being veeeery careful on the fun pedal, in all purpose, average speed is 29mph during that on 21s with the AC running. That also doesn't factor in any phantom loss, it's just driving slowly on city streets.

I'm also trying to learn the range to expect.

Looks like I got a 2 mile drain overnight (9 hours) and the truck did go to sleep. Conditions were similar to above, with the phone apps all being forced closed.

2 miles, or roughly .6 kwh, over 9 hours is really good for phantom drain.

I'll do another test with the phone apps running under the same conditions. For reference, it's parked in an attached garage on a single story house, so it's likely the truck is struggling to go to sleep, like @Max mentioned above. We'll see what happens.

I have found drain is lower overnight when closing app and restarting phone and not going back into the app. ?‍♂ Nothing scientific just fewer miles lost when comparing.

So I also left my car for a week long trip unplugged and with it connected to wifi and pinging the app once a day to check range, I seemed to get a consistent 6 miles/2% range loss for every 24 hours.

Has anyone tried testing vampire drain with wifi off? I’m thinking I may just turn it off permanently and only turn it back on the week of an OTA update.

Looks like similar usage with the truck unlocked and phone app running. I'm thinking the truck just can't go to sleep with the app nearby.

So, my conclusion here is the best way to slow phantom drain is to keep the truck unlocked and kill the app on your phone.

Also, interestingly, did a freeway loop today, ended up going 40 miles with the AC on in conserve mode, average speed of 40mph, and got 2.83 mi/kwh. Definitely pleasantly surprised at that!

I hope Rivian engineers gets this issue resolved quickly. It’s one of the few negatives I can find with the R1T.

New test....Gear Guard off, A/C off, Radio off, Fob in Faraday bag, .....took off charger at 11 am...the key is: force close app and restart phone and not going back into the app! Truck will stay asleep. Also notice lights don't blink, etc...no whirring sounds. 206 miles at 11 am yesterday, 204 at 7:30 this morning. If using all purpose range, it is a .007326 battery drain....if using conserve range estimate, .00682 (Not in Kwh usage like some people would like, just my little unscientific way)

How does one turn the radio off? I have a volume control, but unable to find an off switch anywhere for the audio/entertainment system. Please enlighten me.
