Anyone have the IRS form 8936?

Looking to see if anyone else who took delivery in 2022 has received the form 8936 for the tax credit? If so, where/how did you acquire it?

If you use a tax software app like Turbo Tax, it will be included. If not you can get them from the IRS.

Yep, it's 2023 deliveries that need a form from the selling dealer. 2022 you fill it out yourself.

I’m not sure how that portion is supposed to work. Rivian is not collecting the social security number for the transaction. I guess I will find out when I file for 2023.

Other than that portion, I took delivery in January before battery component requirements were defined, vehicle was 79k MSRP, I will be under the 300k AGI this year, I also signed the purchase agreement (not sure any value here though). I expect to be eligible for the full 7500…??

Looking at the instructions for the form, if you have the signed purchase agreement, you can fill it out yourself and you put (I think) August 1, 2022 for the delivery date as it's the date prior to the IRA. Head to the link above and read the instructions and you'll get an idea.

I could be wrong, but that's the way I'm reading it, anyway.

I just filed my taxes 2 hours ago (thank god thats over). Form 8936 should be part of your tax preparers software. However, don't forget form 8911. You can get up to $1000 for an EV charger install. It does have income limits though, unlike the 2022 EV credit.

Apparently the credit under 8911 is only for chargers installed prior to 2021 unless your state extended the credit (California did not), but worth checking!

This was extended and is not a state dependency.
There are tax limits that apply to this form similar to AMT

I can confirm it was extended, and unfortunately I can also confirm that I wasn't able to get it based on some AMT calculation.

I'm a little fuzzy on the details but it seems it was extended late in the cycle and not every tax preparer's software has it updated. Mine did, but from reading online I saw reports that some software didn't have it updated (a group of people complaining about H&R Block). Just something to keep In mind if you don't see it as available.
