To me it seems unlikely they'd copy something complicated and costly like your system for such a rare vehicle? Now, if Rivian pushed out 500,000+ vehicles per year that might get China's attention for a lot of aftermarket accessories. But producing 50K vehicles/year might just be too small a number to be profitable for them to mass produce something (which is the secret of their success, small volume manufacturing is something they're not interested in) other than mud flaps and similar simple items for.
Let's hope! These new tariffs/de minimis removal will probably discourage this to some degree as well.

In this day and age the hardware is a bit of a commodity anyway. I feel a lot of the value will come from new features and hardware expansion

^ I read the de minimis exemptions for China and Hong Kong (no import duty/tariffs on packages valued under $800) which has been in place since 1930 is scheduled to end May 2nd. That will hit Temu, Shein and Ali Express hard as mostly all their packages are valued under $800 and pay absolutely no duty/tariffs currently.

You use a Pi board in your product right? Where is that manufactured? Are you expecting to be impacted by the new tariffs?

For those of us with young daughters, you can sense the dismay in the air with the prospect of Temu and Shein clothing "hauls" going away.😎

I am impacted by the new tariffs. A fair amount of the larger parts, such as the pre-assembled boards, are mostly exempted (thanks Apple!). But a lot of the smaller components are not and they add up at 140% tariff or whatever it is now. Not fun.

Has anyone else noticed that evplay.io is no longer valid? Was this just vaporware?

It still works when I go to the website. Maybe try again?
Diconnected from my wifi and went strictly cellular and it connects. Looks like my DNS provider is having issues.

Glad it's still up!

This is what I'm most excited about.

It's the only reason I haven't bought the connect+ subscription yet. Lol

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
This is great, but what’s to stop Rivian from just sending an OTA update and blocking your device? I always feel like these devices are a game of cat and mouse between the developer and the OEM. Good luck though. If nothing else it might force Rivian to include these services and features themselves.

As suggested, please try again. EV Play is certainly not vaporware. I am in the middle of the beta program and assembling units... so apologies if I haven't been on the boards as much. I will have a big update going out tomorrow, including install videos and app walk-throughs. Stay tuned!

That is a common concern, but that's why EV Play was designed as a hardware solution -- think of it like a monitor switch that allows you to share a display across two computers. OTA updates to either computer has zero effect on the switching capability. The same applies here.

From a business standpoint, I feel like they wouldn't want to nuke it either. Biased and wishful thinking aside, a happy current customer is a happy future customer. As Gen 2 (and then R2) feature updates start to eclipse older models you want a healthy aftermarket ecosystem to develop those new features and keep folks in older Rivians(vs. buying something from a competitor). Dealerships don't just profit from new & used car sales -- they also profit from parts & service.

This looks like it's hijacking the signal for the display, as I expected. I don't think Rivian can do anything to stop that, but they could cause a headache with the canbus data.

Yea, not much they can do about the display (which is my main reason for buying)

I think the canbus stuff is a nice surprise, so I wouldn't be too sad if it got borked but I'm glad we will have it for now
