Sorry if this is a stupid question, but are any of the Rivians currently being delivered equipped with Max packs? Or are the Max pack deliveries going to take a lot longer?

there are not currently. We should find out when Rivian plans to start delivering them next week when people who don't have launch edition reservations are supposed to get delivery windows.

It's just a hunch, but I suspect that they'll be pushed to the end of the 2022 other than a few very early reservation orders.

The email from this morning did say that those with early reservations for a max pack or explore package will have the opportunity to change configuration to allow for delivery in 2022.

Just to clarify, reservation holders from 2018 and 2019 will have this option. Those of us in 2020 and beyond will not based on the wording in today's email.

At this point, I would like to know if any R1T pre-production max packs for testing even exist? Have they even figured out where the extra battery packs will fit and will we have to give up anything to get them?

@MoreTrout,
My understanding is that all other things being = reservation date still dictates delivery timeframe. If you were to change to Lg. pack adventure trim with a March 2020 preorder in PA you will get it before the same configuration in the same region than someone with a September 2020 or 2021 preorder.
I hope you determine a Lg. pack will suffice I think you will love the truck. I'm in the same boat on range and charging living a little north of you in Central NY. I'm getting a LE R1T I understand that will mean an extra 30-60 minutes on a few trips a year and maybe even limit a very remote trip as you mentioned. For me the benefits still outweigh the drawbacks.
You could place a Max Pack preorder today and reconfig your current preorder to LG.

I debated making the same change, but I'm assuming the calculations have already been performed so I fear I'll be seeing a late date, anyway.

I'm curious if/how they'll discuss potential changes and what specific impact that will have on delivery timing.

This is what the email from RJ this morning says:

"To Max pack and Explore preorder holders who have been with us since 2018 and 2019 whose delivery windows may push into 2023 — we value your loyalty and commitment and will be reaching out to you in January to gauge your interest in reconfiguring to an Adventure Package with Large pack battery so that you can take delivery in 2022."

So I'm not as optimistic changing to a lg pack will get me a truck in 2022. It sounds like they are only hoping to fulfill that promise if you were a 2018 or 2019 preorder. Once they get the responses from the 18/19 preorders, maybe they will start to make the same offer to 2020 max pack preorders. Or maybe I'll be given an option for a large pack in early 2023 vs a max pack in late 2023. I'm just very wary of changing anything about my order until I get a little more clarity.

Home to camp is about 208 miles for me. Currently, there are exactly 2 DCFC on that route - one at 55 miles into the trip and the other about 137 miles (and a few miles out of the way). With 20in ATs, cold PA winters, and the potential for light towing, that 137 miles becomes very close to the expected range very quickly for a large pack. And although not common, it also isn't out of the ordinary for me to put 200 miles on a vehicle in a day of fishing.

More than likely, only the R1T. There’s still no mention (or ability to configure) an R1S max pack. It’s anybody’s guess as to when those will ship.

I doubt it. They wouldn't be pushing max packs out that far unless they still hadn't worked out how to even make them fit.
If it was just a matter of adding a few battery modules, it wouldn't make sense to separate them out like that.

It was probably a theoretical idea that they can't really deliver on, and hope that the delay will make most of the max pack holders downgrade so that they can get out of ever implementing it without pissing off their customers.

Either that, or the max pack extension was supposed to be some kind of thing that sat in the bed of the truck, which is why it is only available in the truck format and not the SUV. Even though they share the same skateboard.

No, they are battery supply constrained and trying to deliver the most vehicles possible with the supply they have.
