The option to turn them off is more for situations where you parked sitting in the car and don't want to illuminate your surroundings. I usually do this while charging or when I'm just sitting in the car waiting for someone. They will stay off until you start driving again. When driving, the Halos will always come back on as a safety feature. The headlights in auto will go on and off as a function of how dark it is outside. Lights seem to always revert back to auto, every time you exit and shut down the vehicle and then get back in.Sorry to bump this one up again, but I received my R1S this past Saturday and I'm experiencing the same thing.
If I set the headlights to OFF (everything in front turns off, even DRL/oval lights/bar) it goes right back to AUTO a very short time later (DRL/bar turns on).
There seems to be no way to keep them off. If that's by design, I understand, but then why give us an option to turn it off?
EDIT: Anecdotally, it seems to turn back on when it is darker (under an overpass), and when it is brighter and I turn the lights OFF, it seems to stay off. But why?
