I had mobile service this morning to replace my frunk lid trim, and asked our New Mexico mobile tech about the tonneau covers. (Thanks, Alex!)

Here's what he told me:

• He expects the retrofits to be at the service centers by the end of the month. (I'm guessing that he meant September, I didn't think to clarify until he'd left)
• The retrofit is specced to be service-center only, however, he's reviewed the procedure and plans to be able to offer it as mobile (at least for his customers in NM and the Durango area) and expects to be able to start installing the retrofits about a month after the service centers have the kits
• It does involve replacing the cover, motor, and rails, so any accessories mounted on the bed will have to be removed before service (which is going to be a PITA for me)

We'll see what happens, but it's another data point!

Are they replacing functional covers, or do you have to wait for it to breakdown. I would think that that broken one’s would have priority.

That is about where I am. Tough having a $75,000 vehicle that we can't use for travel unless we wrap luggage in garbage bags?. I hope the latest info is accurate, but this will be the 3rd time I've been told "next month".

Sounds like the R1S would be perfect for you. They never said the tonneau would be watertight. Mine has worked extremely well in that regard, but I wouldn't put anything in there that I knew had to remain 100% dry.

There is huge difference between a small amount of water dripping in an making contact with luggage and subjecting luggage to an extended downpour. The tonneau also provides significant security for luggage while travelling. My tonneau has been broken nearly a year now and I too had to change plans and take a different vehicle on a road trip because I didn't want to risk camp trunks getting soaked in the rain, nor did I want to have to haul them into a hotel because they could not be stored securely at night.

Whatecer works for you. I wouldn't even want a tonneau for farm stuff. I have had many trucks in my life and this is the first one with a tonneau. I even kept my Cummins for other stuff.

I've owned 13 pickup trucks in my life. All except this one the half ton variety. Some have had covers; some not. I prefer it when they do because of the earlier mentioned security issue. I can't even drive to Normal for a golf outing and take other players because they don't want their clubs left in the bed when we go to Brew-Ha's after playing.
Obviously the R1T is not designed primarily for work like the F150 diesel I sold to buy it, but it is a serviceable truck.

IMO, if they were really this close to having a fix done, they would have announced it already.

I would guess they won't announce it until its on a few trucks, and working. Otherwise, lots of people will be swamping the service centers for power tonneau fixes, and they are already swamped as it is with other work. Probably initially fix it if the truck comes in for something else also, instead of stand alone appointments for the power tonneau.

Best news I've had all week - Mine was dead on delivery making my bed useless.

Over a year in and opening and closing mine up to several times a month, it still works flawlessly. But there is always a moment of anxiety in the back of my mind every time I do it. Even with the mobile option, I might finally opt for a service center visit on this to finally get my one misaligned bottom trim piece fixed. As long as my cover keeps working, I know I'm at the end of the line for replacements behind those with broken ones. That's also a good thing since it gives them a chance to learn any lessons with the replacement process before getting to mine.

A lot of it us are happy to be Guinea pigs for you ?. Wet luggage good goodbye…?
