There’s a place here in Kona charging, wait for it…

$3/kWh @ L3 62.5 kWh max rate.

I used BlueDot which charged for $0.30 cents/kWh which is cheaper than my rates at my Kona house

They can sell my data all they want. I’ll take the relatively cheap electrons.

Actual charge when initiating with the BlueDot app:

PM me for a BlueDot referral code! ?
Hawaii is an exceptional case as it’s mostly powered with imported dinosaur remnants. The most expensive kind.

Yeah, they’re trying. 2045 is the goal for 100% renewable. About 30% was from renewables last year. We still have rolling blackouts on island sometime. If a generating station has some issues it’s chaos. They’re still struggling - as many utilities are - how to manage early evening hours as well when solar generation nosedives and stops.

Funny, my primary residence (for now) is in Phoenix. Electricity rates there are pretty low, but consumption is high due to AC usage during the miserable desert summers. My second residence in Kona has one of the highest electricity rates in the country - and I have solar at both houses.

I went on a 3,000-mile trip this summer and the highest price I paid to charge was at a Flying J in Rock Springs, Wy.

I would say it's gouging if the companies were raking in massive profits, i.e. oil companies pulling in billions in profit each year. EVgo has not yet turned a profit.

Totally agree and they should. That's crazy charing folks that much. The highest I have seen prior was EVgo non membership $0.69 per kwh which I think is also crazy high.
I charged my GM vehicle at a RAN in Wickenburg, and it was $0.68/kwh. The PFJ sites in AZ are all around $0.62kwh.

Flying J is a last resort for me due to cost, which is sad because the chargers are pretty nice and the facilities around them are also not bad. When one gas station has high prices you can tell by the sign out front and can usually just go to the other station across the street. You vote with your pocketbook. It is still usually pretty hard to know what a charger will charge you until you get there, and often by that time it is too late to find an alternative. That, and all the memberships charging networks are trying to push (especially ones that make you run a positive balance on your account) are my two biggest frustrations right now. Gas stations used to all have their own branded credit cards to try to keep people loyal to their brand and people hated it so it kind of went away. Now they're trying to push that same type of model on EV charging.
