I am getting ready to reserve the R2. We had a Tesla Model 3 for 4 years and were hounded by getting the black screen many many times.
Just wondering if owners of the R1 have had this problem?

The Tesla, in 3 years had.....so many I lost track. The worst ones of course,,,when I had an appointment and ended up sitting in the car waiting and trying multiple times to reboot.
thanks for your answer.

Black screen? Like the screen turns off when driving? Never had that happen in 3 years with my R1T.

3 years, 9 months. 89,500 miles. My screens went black and reset once when I was driving. About 30 seconds total.

I've had mine reset while driving maybe two or three times in 40k miles. It was mostly after one update; generally the UI is pretty stable. Sometimes we get funky things happen to a small subset with updates. Right now i have to plug/unplug/plug again when I plug in my truck at night, but i am confident the next update will clear it up. It's software, and sometimes things mess up. My phone crashes, my computer crashes, Walmart kiosks crash. I wouldn't accept regularly having the screens go blank on any of my devices, especially my vehicle.

Thanks to all. Such a vast difference from our Tesla. Feel much better about our reservation.

And my Tesla experience was much different than you hve seen. I. purchased the Model 3 In mid 2018 and have 131k miles and counting on it. Back in the first couple months of ownership, the Tesla software was unstable and I had several (maybe 5) times with the center display rebooting in the middle of the drive. Over time, Tesla addressed that stability. Since then, over 7 additional years of ownership, I’ve had maybe 3 times where I get in the car, typically right after an update is installed, and the center screen doesn’t immediately light up. The vehicle does go into gear and drive and then after maybe 5-10 seconds, the center display shows the Tesla logo and the screen reboots. It’s been many years since the Tesla rebooted in the middle of a drive. All in all, very stable.
