Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some help troubleshooting an issue, one that the El Segundo service team can't seem to solve.

When idling in the truck for 45-60 minutes, e.g. while waiting for a kid's soccer practice to end, the two screens go black, and I lose charging pad functionality. The R1T remains drivable and after a subsequent ~30 minutes of driving, each screen resets as if normal once again.

I've tried multiple infotainment resets, and vehicle resets, and have now brought the truck into the service center. No luck. They felt it was due to poor screen cooling secondary to bubbles in the cooling tubes -- their words. Despite flushing the system, the issue remains.

I've now had a full battery pack replacement (about 6 months ago), and this current issue didn't start until after that full replacement.

Any help or suggestions would be great.

I'm really trying to not go the lemon law route, but I may. I'm really tired of the battery-related issues on this truck!

Thanks,
Josh

Dumb idea but have you tried buckling a seatbelt?

In my experience this prevents the truck from going to sleep or turning off the screens (which is also dumb, because an accidently buckled seatbelt can drain your battery by keeping the truck awake, but ?).

Cooling issue doesn't make sense unless they turn off while your driving too. If it's a cooling issue and they have flushed maybe it's a pump?

The fact that the charging pad goes off too seems to indicate something else is going on though. Maybe get someone higher up at Rivian involved? They should be able to have a regional engineer look at the issue if the SC is unable to diagnose/fix.

We had a "Headlight charging system" screen pop up on our dash and it would go away for a few mins and then pop up again. We were able to safely drive the vehicle during the day but not at night. Even the "Rivian" bat signal lights wouldn't come on. We took it to the service center and they said it was a software issue and updated the software. No more than an hour later while driving home from the service center it happened again. This time they sent someone to out house and picked up the R1T and left us a loaner R1T. They had our truck for 3 weeks to try and figure it out. They told us they replaced all the sensors reset this and that and checked everything. They couldn';t figure it out so they called in the regional tech.....they tried and couldn't figure it out either. So, they actually flew in the specialist for the electrical from Normal Illinois and they worked on it and eventually ran a ENDO camera through the truck and found an issue with a wire that was shorting out or a bad solder. They fixed it, and drove the car back to us. We have had it back for a month now and is working perfectly.

For the OP I would suggest they skip the line and ask for someone higher up to look at it. I think the SC techs know a lot, but not everything.

For all the electrical gremlins I wonder how many rover engineers they hired? Imagine the wiring harness after a few years of washboard. This is going to be interesting.

Did you ever get this resolved? My screens have gone black three times, the first two while driving and the latest (Monday) while charging at a RAN. Tried multiple resets and finally the sleep cycle seemed to work. I was on a 2,000+ mile roadtrip and had to backtrack to a service center. They were great, but had no idea what was going on and couldn't fit me in for a proper appointment. Not the best situation since I was about to drive 1,000 miles across the Colorado/Utah/Nevada/California deserts.

Sadly, no. I currently have a loaner and they've had the truck for almost a collective month at this point. No answers.

Hi JDMD. Any update on your truck? Mine is in the shop for a screen issue, too (over 3 weeks now). The screens were going totally black on me. They originally replaced some monitor components but that didn't help. It tended to happen on hot days so we thought maybe it was a cooling issue. They replaced those parts on Monday but its been 5 days since then and the problem persists.

I was happy to at least find someone who is having a similar issue. Maybe our cases will allow them to figure this out.
