When I plug in charging cable and the headlights are still on I get blinded by headlights. Should be a way Shem charge port opens to change lighting in that area of vehicle so your not staring into light trying to plug in charger.
only happens at night and in garage.

maybe just don't stare at the lights.....the charge port is on the side so you shouldn't be staring at the front headlights as you aim for the charge port anyway.........are you sure you should be driving?

^ So true. Most people learn at young age to not stare at sun? ? Aren’t there also settings in vehicle settings for lighting behavior while charging?

For most average height people when plugging in charger there’s a sidelight that shines in your eyes.
Glad you’re not affected by this. One advantage of shorter stature.

I’m over 6’ tall and have the same issue as the OP. The side of the headlights do make the experience of plugging in your charging a tad bit more challenging.

The light from the charging door area itself is brite, at night my pupil is opened up for a dark garage, so the bright light has bothered me as well. No, I'm not starring at the headlights, I'm looking at the charger port to insert the cable.

I have considered putting some masking tape over the ring of light in the charger light ring.

Just because some peoples eyes are not slow to constrict does not mean they need to be sassy.

I have to stand off to the side to plug in because my garage is tiny. I’m 6’1” and I can’t recall ever feeling blinded if the headlights are still on. Not sure what I’m doing different. ??‍♂

Maybe don't stand in front of the headlights?
The charge port is on the side so you could stand there.
