When we picked up our R1S, we were told that our kids could sync their headphones via bluetooth and then we wouldn't have to listen to their music while we're in the car with them. I have no problem syncing devices with screens to the Bluetooth but cannot for the life of me figure out the headphone situation. What am I missing??

I don’t think what you want is available. My son just uses his phone or tablet with his headphones and everyone is happy.
the manual only mentions phone pairing.

Headphones don't connect to any car ever. They listen to their music on their headphones connected to their devices.

Not true. All of my Siennas have headphones that connect to the vehicle itself. They do connect via IR instead of Bluetooth, but I suspect that any vehicle that has a rear seat entertainment system has the same capability to connect directly to the vehicle.

Interestingly, I've noticed the headphones that connect to rear entertainment systems often don't work from the front. Probably because the IR doesn't work from up front, but I assume there is some design intent there as well. I can imagine it isn't a great idea for the driver to wear headphones and diminish ability to hear what is happening around them inside or outside the car.

This is also true of my Honda odyssey!

The Audi Q5 I replaced with my R1T supported Bluetooth headphones. I tried it once while watching a movie on the MMI (I was taking a break from driving, the gf was sleeping). That's the only time I ever had a use for the feature.

I recall my old Mazda 3 also supporting Bluetooth headsets, but never tested to see if it worked for headphones.
