I should add the front calipers have 2 bleeders. They say to bleed the inbound first, then outbound, than inbound again.
Good to know. I have done it on my motorcycle, but never on a car.

Flush and fill $258.50 + tax at the Service Center. Rivian recommends doing this every 3 years.

Why does Rivian recommend this service every 3 years? I've never had it done on any other vehicle.

Nothing special to diy this right? Just open the bleeder screw, attach hose, fill&pump brakes, right?
I would hope Rivian uses a pressure bleeder. Pumping it manually is an old school art.

But it should be done on all cars. My BMW said every two years. If not stated I’d do it every 4-5 years.

Brake fluid degrades over time. It attracts and absorbs water, which causes longer pedal travel. Fluid will darken over time. There's test strips you can get to test the fluid.

Porsche requires fluid to be changed every 2 years.

The ABS sensors have some very small orifices so keeping clean fluid reduces the chance you'll have to replace an expensive sensor. Before ABS you could get away with dirty fluid, maybe less performance as stated above but clogged sensors weren't an issue.

Either way if you have enough water in the fluid and the fluid gets hot enough, you have steam, which compresses much more easily than a liquid ie...brake failure. So like the old Fram commercials used to say, you can pay me now, or you can pay me later.

Curious about others' opinion, or Rivian's instructions: Does the three years start when the vehicle is placed in service, or when it is manufactured? The gap can be a few months or more....

Thanks to all!

Placed in service. Use actually helps the moisture enter the system.
I don't consider this critical so try to combine it with another service. Of course that does not mean skip it either but several extra months it is not going to suddenly be damaged or unsafe.
