Another data point on this. I brought my 2022 R1T into the Vancouver Service Center to deal with loose hub bearings, a warrantied issue. In replacing them, the service tech came out and said I had very uneven wear on my front brake pads. I was very confused as I basically never use them given regen braking. The service center said this happens as material accumulates (salt, etc.) and corrodes brake pad. Still seems very weird to me. Cost ~$600 CAD to replace, and of course warranty did not cover it.

Just had this yesterday at the Vancouver SC. This is the second replacement set of brakes now. I had them replaced in May 2024, they did it as a good will. Since then, I've had regen assist off and have periodically hit all the brakes with brake cleaner.

Yesterday got the call that they were worn and needed to be replaced. I apologized ahead of my rant, and then went on about how in all of my other gas vehicles where the only way to stop is the brakes, i hadn't needed to replace them every year. Why on a vehicle that doesn't need to use brakes, am I wearing through them?

Got the same debris etc starts to jam the brakes from under use and they start to wear against the rotor. I asked what on earth I can do going forward to prevent this ridiculousness, and it was suggested hard stopping once a month a couple times to clean the brakes out. While I don't necessarily disagree with that approach, i still think it's ridiculous.

So. From now on, every 2-3 months, I'll be greasing the pins and slides on the calipers.

He mentioned greasing the brakes is something that's been added as part of the service intervals more recently fleet wide to combat the issue.

1200 for comprehensive multi point, rotation and front pads and rotors.

Out of curiosity, did they claim both front and rear were bad again? The front calipers are monoblock and do not have slide pins, where the rears are slide-pin calipers. Mine have so far been fine and I'm just shy of 40k miles with regen assist off. I do hit the brakes hard on occasion, but most of my driving is regen only. When it rains, I always make sure to drag the friction brakes to try and dry them off before parking.

Interesting thread. The main issue seems to be with the caliper assembly, which doesn’t appear to perform consistently across the brand. For reference, I’m at 62K miles on my R1T, and during my 57K inspection the original brake pads were still estimated at 65% life remaining.

My mistake on the part naming. The keeper pins on the fronts are typically where the pads bind. The photo below is of my first set in May '24

So going forward, I'm going to try to ensure those are clean.

I will concede this could be a side effect of the dusty/muddy/silty water roads I subject my truck to at least once a week. I try to hit everything including the calipers with a pressure washer after but maybe I haven't been effective enough.

My rear pads are in need of replacement after 34k on my R1T. Northern climates go through pads a lot quicker because of all the road salt and deterioration on the rotors. My fronts aren't very far behind, I have the same kind of uneven wear on the inner pad that @MountainBikeDude has.

at 84K miles and have now had two full replacements. Tech told me there a little "shelf" where debris collect and this is the reason. He said it's especially bad in Northern NE as we drive on dirt roads more than most. I always drive regen and this is certainly a design flaw. It was suggested that I schedule break service every six months and that would make them last longer....

@Zoidz yes it's at the Rivian Service Center in Chelsea, MA. They are quoting $900 for pads and rotors and I think there is a realization something is wrong because they took the labor off before I started asking questions. I'll update after I hopefully get the truck back this afternoon.
Just buy the parts online ( higher quality. ). Do not change the rotors unless you see grooves on them. )

part found. https://www.carid.com/sf-pl-mpn/pid...MIsfTc2MuPkAMVsrIDAB0K4B9LEAQYAyABEgK8V_D_BwE

Seems like the lower right piston is more active than the other three. Could be friction holding that pad on the disc. Does seem to be dry at the pins and the ends.
