You likely won't get an r2 for 2-3 years. It doesn't kill anything.

My brother has 2 kids. Won't even look at an R2. My wife and I have zero kids. Wants an R2 badly.

IMHO, really depends on your family situation.

Doesn’t kill the R1S at all…. Just makes me more curious about an R1X. ?
Not sure what my wife would call my Bougemobile R1T if it had even more power. It makes the family woozy when I hammer it now. Will need a place for the airsickness bags on the back of the front seats.

Bravo on the vision Rivian! I hope you can pull it off.
Very impressive SPECs on R2, and R3s), but they essentially kill the R1 vehicles.
The R1 is the ICON of Rivian, far from killing it....I think it enhances it and it's the ONLY Truck!

There isn't a market to sell 50K units of R1 products yearly, but they will still sell plenty to keep them alive.

As stated previously, early R1T Quad is a collector’s edition.

You should run to the demo site and purchase all day at those prices.

ignorant take

thats like saying the Ford Maverick kills the F-150, or the Tacoma kills the Tundra, or the Highlander kills the Sequioa, or the ....

yes the R1 is long in the tooth now, thats technology and design. things improve. things get old. which is the point and why we keep needing to replace what we have.

Rivian needs to expand its lineup, which they have. they need mass market vehicles, which they now appear to have.

Holy F this forum is loaded with trolls.
I guess someone should tell Jeep not to make the Wagoneer and Grand Cherokee. Or Chevy the Suburban, Tahoe, Blazer, etc.

Oh and what pickup did they launch today that kills the R1T?

Not even close to killing R1. The range of the air suspension is one of the biggest reasons I bought my R1T vs something else then on the market. Go off-road and have fun, then drop it back down for efficiency on-road...R2 and R3 will not have that capability or all the storage space the R1 has. R3X looks interesting, but only as a companion to the R1 for me.

On the bright side, Rivian stock is up over 13% :like:

There is only so much market for vehicles at the R1 price point. Introducing smaller vehicles at lower price points isn't going to compromise sales of the R1. It's going to increase total Rivian sales and profits. By some people's (flawed) logic, Rivian should just go ahead and cancel production of the R1, dump plans for the R2 because really what's the point, and just skip straight to R3 since it would cannibalize sales of all the other larger, more expensive models.

The only way a vehicle manufacturer can thrive, not to mention insulate against ever changing market conditions, is to offer a balanced portfolio of products covering several different market segments. Every single car manufacturer out there (that isn't a startup) has been doing this for decades.

You ain’t fitting a family of 4 or 5 and dog(s) in a R2 or R3
R2 cars have more leg room in the 2nd row than in an R1S
Taken from Top Gear walk around - (1 minute 35 second mark of video)

So, while you won't get 4 and 2 dogs,
you can get 4 in more or at a minimum equal comfort than an R1S and also have 1 dog in back of the R2.
