UPDATE: The Chicago service center called today saying that none of the components that they were replacing were actually faulty. They think that while I was parked at the Brewer game that all of the radio and television broadcast signals interfered with the vehicles electronics. Diagnostics showed that during the game the rear passenger side wheel was spinning at 9k RPMs. So they asked for my permission to review my gear guard video, thinking that the video will glitch out at the same moment. They said this happened recently to another Rivian parked at LAX.

I’ll let you know more as I hear more.

Thanks,
Ben

Damn this is crazy, @thebwk.

I'm sorry to hear about the issues and hope they get it back to you soon.

Sounds like something that needs to go all the way to the top and be prioritized in short order.

Sure is. Does that mean no more Brewers games for me?
Or Packers, Bucks, Summerfest, Badgers, etc...

Hopefully if that is truly what it was (call me skeptical), they have a way to shield whatever is being interfered with and then recall all vehicles to implement. Seems like a pretty big deal if vehicles can be bricked by certain radio frequency emissions.

Sounds like BS to me... the radio and TV over the air broadcasts are transmitted from a radio transmission tower located many miles away from the stadium. No broadcast signals emanate from the the stadium grounds except possibly the signals from the walkie-talkies security uses and they are typically 1 watt or less power.

Uh, how exactly do you think the video feed gets from the stadium to the networks for retransmission (the signal you described)? I take it you've never seen the satellite vans parked outside stadiums?

Is there a Rivian engineer on the forum that could lend some insight?

Wtf is that even means. The wheel was spinning while parking?

Even if the outbound MLB feed is via internet, Local news crews frequently do live spots from stadiums, it’s a plausible explanation. Security handhelds are more typically 4-6 watts. I have seen radios used by maintenance crews glitch various devices in manufacturing plants.

The fact that they got a 9000 RPM signal while parked and the brakes glitched are probably related.

Regardless, this type of issue should not occur. Hopefully an isolated instance due to an assembly deficiency and not a design fault.

The backhaul to the network is at microwave frequencies directed in a super tight beam up to a sat parked in a fixed position. If transmitting dish is off by even 3mm alignment the connection fails.. that's how tight the beam is. And, even more important.. that transmission that is beamed up in a tight beam like a laser is only a couple watts power, not the 1,000s of watts ERP that radiates out in all directions from a TV/Radio broadcast tower.
No way could a microwave uplink from for a TV network feed kill a vehicle out in the parking lot... and if it could, why didn't it kill many or all the other vehicles in the parking lot vs just this one Rivian vehicle?
I visit a lot of tower sites for my job... using my Rivian and I'm literally 30 ft away from the bunkers that have a dozen or more multi-thousand watt transmitters inside, not to mention I'm only 100' or less away from the actual broadcast tower that has 20-30 broadcast antennas on it and have never had an issue with signals knocking out my Rivian or Tesla or BMW or Bolt when I went to the multiple tower sites we manage.

FWIW- we even send drones up to 500' height or higher and only a few feet from the tower to look for antenna and connector/cable problems.. and with only being only feet away from antennas radiating 1,000s of watts ERP it doesn't affect the sub $200 drones.

We've sold 1,000s of Motorola hand held radios to fire depts, hospitals, malls, schools, racetracks, etc.. we always default them to 1 watt transmit and we actually disable the 4.5 watt setting when programming because it kills the batteries so quick it wouldn't last an 8hr shift. Other vendors we know do the same, they disable the high-power transmit feature by default. All our managed facilities use repeaters so no need for high-power portables. And the repeaters are only 10-20 watt output so that can't kill car electronics either.

Thanks, you proved my point.. all low power microwave uplinks to sats in orbit, nothing broadcasting down to the ground.

Not all are satellite. Some use terrestrial microwave links.

The point is that this could be a one-off problem with OP's Rivian where a there is a poor connection, broken shielding or bad sensor that allows RF from a nearby transmitter into the circuit. It's technically plausible. How likely? dunno.
