For everyone saying "Tesla was like this, Tesla was like that.. in the first 2-3yrs.." well, Rivian is now in their 3rd year of actual customer vehicle production. When do we stop giving them a pass on things they have had ample time to correct and still haven't? There needs to be a time when we just admit "Rivian is bad at xxx" without qualifiers.

Yes, Honolulu where the SC’s been coming for over 3 years, but now RVN lets you waive the no service center obstacle. There is a benefit to selling to others over a LE preorder—RVN makes thousands more on new orders.
Not an exception here as a few score here in same —and the 15Ts and 3 S owners that gave up on RVN and had delivery on West Coast and shipped them here on their own. What is on RVN is lack of comms and updates—2 years now of ever sliding delivery dates—latest string was Apr-Jun, then Jun-Jul, then Aug-Oct, then Oct-Dec and that was reconfirmed then in Dec changed to Dec -Jan where it still is with zero possibility that is real, then soft notification Q1 would be it—well no VIN and quickly evaporating chance one will be here by end of March.

And yet they still communicate and have better service than most of the established auto makers. When do those legacy automakers stop getting a pass? 100 years might not be enough. Maybe 200 years?

We don't give the legacy guys a pass... we openly say "Ford sucks at xxx" and "GM sucks at yyy".

Rivian is scheduling service appointments 6 months out at this point.. which legacy brand is doing that?

I think you’ll be happy you cancelled it. My R1S was 6 months of headaches before I sold it. Rivians communication is abysmal, which is much of the reason I dropped mine. I can’t even imagine having a catastrophic vehicle problem and trying to get communication.

The FACTS:

August 2023 - Deposit

October 2023 - Confirmed Configuration. $95k MSRP

November 2023 - advised vehicle would deliver mid-November

End of November - Installed 50 AMP JuiceBox in my garage

December 1-7, 2023 - Crickets/No word from Adventure Guide(s)

Mid-December- Vehicle enroute to Las Vegas SC, submitted trade-in (Range Rover Sport Dynamic SC) information (Registration, PayOff, Etc)… supposed to take 24-48 hrs to process.

4 Days later - Crickets, unable to proceed w/ financial process until trade-in confirmed

5 days later - Insurance returned because effective policy date was post-dated (duh). Guide called me, had questions about trade-in. SC contacts me pressuring to schedule delivery, however, advised financial process hasn’t started. Delivery set for following Monday (in 2 business days).

6 days later - Financials submitted, trade-in accounted -$14K. Rivian offered 8.09% APR. My credit union was slow to respond.

That same week, work life hectic, had to deal with multiple horrific events (I’m a First Responder). I emailed Rivian, advised I don’t have the time or capacity to jump through all those hoops in two days.

Ended up letting go of the R1S and took home a beautiful 2024 Q8 e-Tron in just a matter of hours. Audi took good care of me, gave me $12.5k incentive, almost 0% APR on a lease. Not my first choice, I’m deeply disappointed and still want the R1S. But I refuse to pay that much nor get strung along. Rivian needs to start leasing. I see my local SC is now overstocked with R1T’s and R1S’s.

We’ll see how the climate looks in 3 years from now.
Given it's an Audi, you'll regret your decision sooner than later!

Building a company takes decades. Have you tried to change a simple cross functional process in any company? It takes few years. We can all be armchair auto industry experts; but unless you were within the company and prioritize what to work on given limited resources, it is hard to fathom.

As long as it is not something catastrophic, why is there a rush to get a service right away. I do think, we have become very entitled. There are people exactly like us working at Rivian from top to bottom. I do think they do feel our pain; but at the end it is what can they prioritize and deliver.

(I am nowhere even close to Auto industry; but even in my field, I have to take it to 10+ governance forums to get it approved. When I was straight out of college I hated it; but now I think it delivers a best solution. I should have listened to my engineering professor, who said, anybody can come up with a good enough solutions; but only a team can deliver a best optimal solution. )

Wow. Some of us here have been waiting for years for the R1S and this guy waits a few months and complains. Talk about not seeing the forest from the trees.
I waited 1549 days for my R1S and love it!
