I believe it is officially confirmed that the garage door opener feature is coming in a software update. It just isn't available at launch. I could be wrong, but I thought I saw something official from Rivian at one point.
From Rivian Tracker:
Coming soon
While not included in this release, the following features are expected soon via a subsequent OTA update:

  • Rivian Assistant
  • Gear Guard suite
  • Vehicle hotspot
  • Garage door opener

  • I believe Rivian was more concerned about shipping cars than completing the software updates that had to be set for the 2.0 software. I appreciate that they met their commitment though not complete from my reservation two years ago. I think the R2 will be a great car from a great company.

I just don't understand the motivation behind posts like these. What's the end goal? sympathy? affirmation? visibility? Does it make any difference? to anyone? A "thank you for your service" from others who get to move up one spot?

It's like running into a bar and announcing, "everyone, my name is Joe and I've quit drinking".
The entire bar: "Uhh... ok? More for us."

Too many toxic comments on this site. I'm fine with anyone reporting what they perceive and value. Not everyone will agree. OP posts their experience of the vehicle and things they value in a car. So far, so good. And then others pile on, suggesting OP is dumb, irrational, unreasonable, etc. That's not ok.
I'll bite.

When you go out of your way to make a new post about a demo drive, with a click bait title, instead of posting in the very obvious dedicated demo drive review thread you're inviting scrutiny by saying "look at me." On top of that when you state things that are indeed irrational, like "Rivian doesn't have CarPlay which is a dealbreaker for me", which btw they've never had it and is not new news, you are inviting more scrutiny.

Furthermore, when you contradict yourself a thousand times over by saying "I'm getting a Tesla instead" when Tesla also doesn't have CarPlay, also has a glass roof which you said you hate in R2, doesn't come in the color "watermelon" (???), and also is missing a bunch of other things you just said were "dealbreakers" for R2, what are we supposed to say?

It's not hard to see why this post is laughed at bc it's unserious on it's face. There are plenty of legitimate criticisms of the R2 that have been discussed and are still being discussed in the 35+ pages in the dedicated demo drive thread. Saying "no CarPlay" and "has a glass roof" and "doesn't come in watermelon color" are dealbreakers after a demo drive, which btw are all known already without driving the car, vs. something rational like "halo wheels aren't for me" or "suspension was too rough for my liking" or "seats are uncomfortable for my body shape and height" and then saying "but I'm getting a Tesla" is just so unserious for discussion.

Spotify in the Rivian does not do offline music at all, as far as I'm aware. It does not do audiobooks. Podcasts are limited to what's on their store, as long as you're online.
Check this thread out: Solution: Downloading Music on Spotify

FWIW I do still have issues pulling up playlists at all when there is no internet available, but if the playlist that is downloaded is already playing it works fine for me.

That’s an awesome setup. I’ll provide my address and you can send me a nice 24 pack
I might let you stop by for a flight. LOL

Six on tap, one English barleywine served properly on a beer engine and about 48°, a bit cooler than the typical cellar temp of 52°-54°.

They range from a nice pale ale, to American Strong, the barleywine rye barrel aged, Dopplebock, Belgian Dark Strong, and a 21% Imperial IPA. The lowest ABV is the pale ale at 6.2%.

you might have to ride share home. 🄓

I get the feeling that this forum has a high propensity of middle aged people who are searching for a religion in Rivian lol. The fact that so many of you don’t want an editorial detailing objective opinions and truths is absolutely wild; ESPECIALLY considering that if the R2 fails to sell to ā€œnon-believersā€ like me, y’all’re gonna be stuck holding the bag like with Fisker. The way some of y’all talk sounds like either a salesperson making commission on their posts, or you’re expecting RJ to love your dedication to the brand and will bless you with a discounted vehicle. It’s frankly embarrassing to read the shill-y responses here.

I'm not saying OP is a troll but they posted the exact same thing - word for word, bullet point for bullet point - in a Rivian group to which I belong on Facebook. Rather than trying to be informative, I think they're just trying to get a rise out of people. Wait... I guess I AM saying they're a troll.
I haven’t posted on Facebook in probably half a decade. Not me.

Having under 330 miles of range is a hard dealbreaker.

The software in Subarus/Toyotas is another dealbreaker. It's as slow, clunky, and stuttery as a flip phone UI.
I agree. We have a RAV4 prime with CarPlay and to be honest it’s just ā€œmehā€.

I think Rivian has improved with every update

This is why I own both :) My i4 is my DD and my Rivian is our hiking/camping/dog vehicle.
Smart dog! Does he need a booster seat to steer or can he drive it ā€œPaws Free?ā€ Eyes Off Paws Free would be handy if there are a lot of squirrels in your neighborhood.
