Canton MA Service Center

I dropped off my R1S as the Chelsea SC today and asked some of the folks there how things were going with the rumored Canton location, expecting to get some flavor of non-answer. To my surprise they confirmed that it was in the works, but were unclear on timing. I went digging through the Canton website and it is definitely moving forward as the zoning variance got some form of approval, as can be seen at 1h28m of the zoning meeting recording. https://reflect-cctv-vod.cablecast.tv/CablecastPublicSite/show/3253?site=3

The Canton MA Service center will be located at 2 adjoining lots of 121 and 125 Shawmut Rd Canton MA 02021

I think this is a great location. At the junction of 128 and 93. For people from the south, the new 95N exit into Canton makes this very convenient. Folks from the north will have to drive down University Ave to get to this location, which isn't as optimal, but still quite manageable. University ave is large road and should only add a handful of minutes either way, and still a massive improvement in convenience over Chelsea. Overall, suuuuuch a big improvement in location in terms of ease to get to/from as well a substantial increase in space. I'm very excited and hope (with all due respect) this is my last SC visit to Chelsea and any future ones would be to Canton!

Some rough measurements from Google Earth to be able to compare the 2 locations:
* Griffin Way, Chelsea MA - 60k sq ft lot area, 23k sq ft building area
* Shawmut Rd, Canton MA - 232k sq ft lot area, 35k sq ft building area

Roughly 5-6x more raw lot area and 50% more building area than Chelsea.

For those curious, I found these details from the Meeting Agenda from the 9/26/2024 meeting and then went looking for meeting minutes but only found the recording I shared above.

That will definitely improve access for people to the west and south, and alleviate the backlog wait in Chelsea for those in/near Boston and to the north. Hopefully part of significant planned expansion before the R2 starts shipping. Thanks for finding and sharing.

Amazing, thanks for sharing! This will make for a far better experience for everyone (customers and employees) and sounds like provide much more space to simply park at the SC.

Great! Chelsea is slightly closer to me, but as folks have mentioned it’s pretty urban industrial without much actual space and getting there isn’t fun at all. I hope this provides quicker turnaround and a better experience for all of us New England folks that have been relying on one SC! Sorry, my family is from NY originally and CT is Tri-state area to me, barely New England ?

Sweet. Prob about the same amount of time as Chelsea for me, but an easier drive and an excuse to visit Trillium. Wish it was a reasonable walking distance. Maybe they can provide a shuttle...

Yeah! I just got my notice that my R1T is part of the headlight recall. It would be nice to only have to go to Canton for the repair. Thanks!

I had been pushing out my tonneau cover warranty work since January (temp repair has cover operational, so was not in rush to get it replaced) in hopes that Canton would be ready and I could avoid the trip to Chelsea and the chance that I would be stuck with the draw bridge opening and sitting for 15 minutes, but then my windshield cracked, so I had to keep my latest repair (this past Friday). When I dropped it off, Chelsea service rep said the latest rumor was August opening. I was caught in the draw bridge lifting delay!

I've had my truck for 30 months and have only had to make the trek to Chelsea twice (I have had virtually zero issues with my R1T), so if it's another 3 months past this latest "target opening", I don't see a big impact to me personally, but I understand the frustration if you need to get there before then - I hate going to Chelsea - I get it. The mobile service works great as well.

In today's world, construction delays have become the norm, so I'm not at all surprised - it's the first time I've been able to get any information out of anyone, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's not open in August.

I just bought my R1T last week and I was happy to see this thread since I’m less than a mile away. Too bad the old Trillium location isn’t still open across the street. I see a lot of people spending the day at top golf down the street. Since I’m right here I took some pictures - the whole warehouse is being gutted and they are using the lot for storage of new vehicles.
