But I don’t like to say hey siri.
Um...what...??? Ok, you can change it to just "Siri." But really, two words is a problem?

How does my phone hear me say “hey siri” if my radio is too loud and/or the phone is in my pocket?
Magic I guess, probably because of Apple's great microphones? Dunno, just does. But a locked phone can't do some functions, so I keep mine on a charger which keeps it unlocked.

I just realized that it never activates my wife’s phone. Works perfectly and I don’t know why.

Some people are more conscious about privacy and prefer to not have their phone or other device always having the microphone active listening for a Hey Siri prompt. Some employers (typically larger corporations) require that employees disable the always-listening feature on the same devices that are used in the office or home office. For those people, you can still use the voice assistant function if you activate the system to listen with some form of button press.

When you configure Siri to always listen for the Hey Siri prompt, it has you say the phrase a few times to train its audio detection. This is how your phone will usually only key off your voice and you don't trigger your wife's phone even with the same feature active on her phone.

I did some experiments. I think the answer is that it's the same Apple magic that makes it so if you have your phone and a HomePod together, "Hey Siri" activates the HomePod not the phone. If I talk to my wife's phone, it listens to me. But together in the car, it ignores me. So possibly CarPlay tells it something like the HomePods, to be the primary listening device.

Edit: Just got a call from the CIA, they were confirming that.

I installed the CarPodGo in my Rivian. I still am running power from the center console across to the screen. gen 2 does not have fuses under the drivers foot well. There is no 12v outlet under the dash. I bought a 12’ usb c cable (was told that’s the length to run across, down, over and into the console. It’s about 3’ too short.

it’s good, not perfect. True car play voice start immediately when the button is push. With carpodgo, you need to wait 1 second. If I don’t wait, it misses the first word of my text message. If I listen to text and reply, it does not seem to work. If I click on a name that does not have a text to read I can send a reply. So after listening I click on the persons name if I want to reply. Music is great, but it does not restart when I jump back in the vehicle, I have to click play again. My other CarPlay all play when I return.

I tried the OBD2. It never shuts off. The CarPlay does not reconnect after the connection if broken without a restart. I have found the usb-c is best for power on and off as would be expected.

it looks good, come on and off appropriately.

I highly recommend this CarPlay unit.

I use Siri for commands and replies, there's no need to touch the screen. I've never tried the functions you mentioned, but do all of them with voice. You can also re-read and reply by touching the message itself, but again, "Hey Siri reply" works.

I found this forum by searching google for how to put CarPlay the Rivian, before deciding to buy. It's deal breaker for me. Won't have a car without it. While it's disappointing that it's not stock, the 3D files and CP unit in this thread finalized my decision to buy soon.

Wait, sOOn.
