Charging from 120v wall outlet

Followup:

In Florida, 133 miles from the first DCFC on my route home. I had to try two different circuits (first one didn't work with the wall charger although it works fine with my golf cart).

Charging now on 120v, and have added 52 miles in the last 24 hours. Should be good to go for my departure home in the AM.

Remember not to cut it too close... when the car starts preconditioning for charges, the miles drained like a bank account... don't ask me how I know.

Thanks for that. I'll be fine though, I was at 79% (leaving that charger) and drove here with about a 5 mile detour to run an errand on the way. Arrived with 67 miles of nominal range driving in all-purpose mode and not being at all careful. No preconditioning on the way down, but I've also got another 14-15 hours of charging to go.

I think 133 miles won't be an issue, even with my normal heavy foot

I grabbed a beefy 20’ NEMA 14-50 extension cable for when I parked just outside the garage. Here’s the one I have. Handy!

How is that cable? It says it will plug into a 14-30/14-50/14-60 plug. Going to be taking the truck to a camp site and they have 14-30/14-50 hookups so trying to make sure I get the right cable.

Factory charger should plug directly into a 14-50 240v 50 amp campsite plug (but not a 30 amp site).

Yes, factory charger plug will work fine on 14-50s, but the extension is nice with the extra cable.

I might have to share the site with a camper so need the extension cord, if it's a 14-30 plug I'll just have to ensure I drop the truck to 24amps.

Hey, that's is pretty neat. I clicked on the link and chocked on the price a little but then I saw it does all the plug types? How has it been?

After not reading enough about the 110v charge rate and assuming it would be about 5mph like a Tesla (my first electric car is the rivian) I'm trying to find a solution for the following scenarios:

1. Charge at near level 2 speeds at an Airbnb at the beach with no ev charger, but a dryer outlet I assume to be 30amp

2. Charge at the in laws in interior New Hampshire from a 14-50 outlet in the back of my FIL garage.

So basically I need some extension of the portable charger into a home for a dryer outlet and into a garage with 14-50.

I love the integrated solutions without needing a bunch of adapters. Is this what I'm looking for or does someone have another recommendation?

Finally, do I need to watch and control the amps on all of this or is the R1S "smart" enough to regulate it automatically?

Campsite are usually using the TT-30 standard which is 120V 30A. Not the same as 14-30, which is 240V.

Correct, this cable is for the 14-30/14-50/14-50. Ive found a few TT30 to 14-50, even 24amps at 120v is better than 12amps at 120v.

Not yet but planning on it. Looking like we're going to do another trip so will know by end of next month most likely.

Yeah I'm really tempted to get the 50 ft one so that I know any airbnbs I can get to the dryer outlet. I'm a little concerned at how big it will be to haul around with a weight of 25 lb. Is this the same gauge wire as level 2 cables?

Universal plug on the end is really neat but no reviews on it.

So I ended up picking up this cable -

Did a quick test off a TT30 plug and was successful! Only 4miles / hr but better than zero / hr.

The one thing that you NEED to watch is the truck will reset the amperage after you unplug. So when you plug it in you need to ensure you're set to 24amps or it will try and pull 32amps.
