I had the truck up to its highest setting as I was replacing 2 screws that had went missing on one of the bottom cover panels and noticed a considerable amount of leakage on the right, rear shock. The left has a bit and I'm not sure that is considered acceptable. Would love to know how other owner's shocks look compared to mine. I have a service appt for end of Feb. Hopefully, not much more leaks out in the next 3 months.

Thanks for sharing. The bottom picture looks like caked on dirt. The top picture looks like some liquid leakage.

Is the leakage oily? I am wondering if it's just caked on dirt that got wet and looks like leakage (since the pictures show a lot of dirt on other parts like your wheels and CV boots too).

In my experience when shocks leak, it's an oily substance and much darker (more black than brown).

It's often normal to have a small amount of seepage from shocks, and so if they both looked like the left shock, I'd say it's probably not a defect. A very small amount of fluid residue can collect dirt and look like your left shock. That right shock definitely looks defective though.

They shouldn't be leaking. What you can do on the less serious one is clean it with brake parts cleaner and see how long it takes the film to return.

I'm not sure it's normal for them to leak at all. Should be a sealed system. If they are leaking fluid out the system can become contaminated.

Do you get that warrantied? I just swapped out rims for a winter set and noticed this too. Is this a normal amount of greasy buildup?

Those are toast. Seals have left the building. Are you under 60,000?

That looks disgusting. Thanks for the heads up. I'm going to take a look. I'd contact Rivian asap.

I had the same issue with my rear shocks at 24K miles on my 2023 R1T. Noticed it while doing a tire rotation. Mine had not accumulated as much gunk, but I’m sure it was just a matter of time. Just had them replaced under warranty. Definitely something to keep an eye on.

Yes, Rivian has replaced mine twice now under warranty for leaking like this. I'm only at 34K miles and I don't doubt it will happen again.
