Admittedly, the CHP - Truckee social media team is pretty awesome if you don't follow them already (they are equal-opportunity shade throwers, which isn't hard during the wintertime with all the idiotic things people do heading over the summit), but tonight they apparently encountered a Rivian who ran out of charge in the middle of an intersection. Anyone want to admit it was them? 😁

That’s pretty funny 😂 But, darn good advice, considering how much snow we’ve had today up here in the Sierras. This next week will be an adventure for travelers.

That's actually a really well written and fun message, without being tools about it.

Looks like they were close to a charger. Snow plus cold plus a 7000' climb requires some extra juice. Mind you, it dumped pretty hard today. Of course, the comments don't disappoint: usual dumbasses.

And if you drive a EV and not know your SOC you kinda deserve it, as much as an ICE driver who ran on hope and out of fumes.

Now I wonder if this was an LFP dual standard that suddenly lost power at some non-zero state of charge on the display due to faulty calibration as several have experienced.

Who's running out of charge in the middle of an intersection? The only excuse would be an LFP owner with an out of balance pack.

Only other option I can think is that they came to a stop at the light and it wouldn't let it restart moving since it was so low. Been a long time since I watched the early test videos on that but I recall it had some programming that seemed to allow it to keep crawling but as soon as you actually stopped it wouldn't let it start again.

Never mind the fact that there's a RAN charger right off the freeway.

I drive up to South Lake Tahoe a lot and stop at the Placerville charger which is about 65 miles from south lake. The last time up the Nav said I only needed a 17 minute charge to get up the hill to my destination and arrive with 15% SoC. I always charge up to 80% and get in with about 45% SoC. Does it take me another 15ish minutes to get that amount of charge, Yes. Am I prepared for any stops with additional charge buffer in my battery, Yes. An I fool sitting beside the highway with a bricked truck, no?

Those who push their battery or gas tank to the very bottom all the time are more likely to ruin out of juice and pay the price. That's on them.

I was just going to say the same thing about the RAN charger in Truckee right off the freeway.

The image isn't clear where exactly but there is only one main street through Truckee so maybe the ChiPer pushed the vehicle to the RAN?
